    Used Coilovers Worth it?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey guys, I'm debating buying a used set of Stasis Streetsport coilovers for 750. I have 18x8.5 rs6 reps and they stick out about a half inch. I don't think it will be a problem if I just drop it an inch or 1.5"? Are there usually any problems with wear and tear on these systems that I should worry about buying a used set? I really would love to buy them new, but if I could save 500 bucks, why not? Also, how do the H&R Streets compare to the Stasis Streets? Thanks.

I'm pretty sure you will lose any warranty when buying second hand products, which could be a real issue if a shock blows, which could then cost the price difference to repair. Wear items like suspension i would never buy used...

trust me - do NOT buy street sports. they are the WORST suspension out there.... stasis put it out to market to cheap young kids that wanted a "stasis" product. it is absolute garbage. if you dont believe me, buy them and then youll see haha.

i gave my friend streetsports for FREE back in the day, and he cursed me for giving them to him lol.

oh, my email only showed the last sentence, haha. Okay so what would you recommend? Are the H&R streets any better? I just want to lower it about 1-1.5" and have a little stiffer cornering. Nohting too aggressive as it's my DD and I don't track. You're in Boston and it seems like you have a lot of s4's..., any extra coilovers layin around? I live in Somerville.

I bought a used suspension once and regret it, hence my purchase of brand new ST coilovers from Raven last week. They just arrived and sit in my living room.

I've heard and read they are KW V1 coilovers, which I have never read anything bad about. Same with Vogtlands, but I believe the ST ones are a bit stiffer.

On a wear item, I'd be very ware of buying used.

I just bought his H&Rs for my brother and I'm trying to buy his KWs right now. Hopefully he has a 3rd extra set lying around that's not installed on one of his 8000 S4s.

The answer is simple, you get what you pay for when it comes to vehicle suspension. As such a crucial component of your vehicle, suspension is definitely something you do not want to cheap out on. A coilover suspension basically gives you a matched lowering spring and shock absorber combination with the added benefit of adjustable ride height and spring rates through a moveable spring perch or perches. Coilovers are to your car's advantage by reducing unsprung mass, increasing suspension travel, and allowing the car to be corner balanced.

KW is known for their reinforced and durable suspension components. KW's coilovers have been carefully crafted and designed by studying the flaws of competitors and improving on them. In addition KW coilovers can go lower than just about any other brand and allow you to set your car to a "slammed look", "sporty look", or anywhere in between. In the unfortunate event that anything should happen to your coilovers, KW's warranty backs all their products from manufacturer's defect.

I am running some sweet deals for all you AZ forum members so don't hesitate to shoot me over a PM, email me at [email protected], or just simply give me a call here at 714-582-3330 x 8006 if you guys have any questions at all!

WOW same thing happended to me.
I bought USED coils for a guy that said they were in good condition and when I got them in the mail, they were blown and had more miles then he stated.
I was lucky that he was a nice guy and that he gave me a refund. Trust me dont buy used coils unless you know the person who had had and can prove when he got them and how miles are on the coils.
Buy yourself a new set and save yourself the huge headache.

Okay, now that Stasis Streetsports got shot to shtt, what suspension would you guys recommend for me? I can't drop any more than 1-1.5 inches because of my wheels sticking out a bit. I don't track my car, so I would just like something a little bit stiffer for fun on the on and off ramps, but not too much. I can't spend more than 1,400 for a new set and still have money to keep my car on the road with repairs. Thanks.

    Anyone know much about these?

I bought mine new for under $1000 at a show. It's ok, but the springs are way too soft for me. A lot happier with my KW V3 now. PM me if you need a quote.

We've got Vogtland coilovers in stock at some great prices. Great coilover kits designed for the S4 (unlike the SS kits).

I bought a set of tracksports and had them rebuilt. I don't regret it at all. Just make sure you get a quote from Koni or one of the two (I believe) Koni authorized re-builders.

Idk .. they are just a entry level Koni damper/shock setup. They work for me just fine, even on the track. I dont understand why they are the worst for you...

I don't know where the Stasis ss fits in that list, but I have never read or heard a negative thing about any KW stuff, or the regular Vogtlands. The Vogtland GTs at one point had some sort of issue (it may have been a long shipping time or something like that), but not much negative about those, either.

+1... got KW V2 from him earlier this year. great price. quick shipping. V1 are similar to Stasis SS. get V2 or V3. better choice. ~$200 between V1/V2 and ~$200 V2/V3.

Coilovers are a part that age. I wouldn't buy used, even if driven nicely every time - they are still going to have a wear in them that will likely offset the savings. (unless the seller just didn't like them and they have little use - and the seller can be trusted)
