    What brake fluid?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Ok so i am getting new pads, lines and rotors put on my car on friday finally! But i am not sure what brake fluid i should use. I was thinking about getting some high temperature racing fluid just so i dont lose any pedal feel due to heat or the likes but was wondering what you recommend. Would it be overkill (i.e. negatively effective) by getting some Motul or ATE racing brake fluid. I am wondering if racing brake fluid is similar to ceramic brakes where they need to get to warm up before they really start working their best. or should i settle with some DOT5 or DOT4 fluid. Sorry if this has been asked/posted before but i couldnt find anything.

    Thanks guys

I wouldn't recommend a racing fluid. They can sometimes cause problems with squeaky operation of master and slave cylinders. So I would stay away from ATE Super Blue, and opt for ATE Typ 200 or Pentosin Super DOT4 instead. Something that is high quality, but not a race product. That just IMO.

I've used Pentosin Super DOT4. i have hard that it is the OEM fluid in the RS models and the R8. Slightly higher boiling point than stock.

racing fluids are good for race cars. they absorb moisture like a ShamWOW and must be changed at least once a year to perform as it should

ok cool thanks guys, i had a feeling it might be too much and therefore have a negative effect on the brakes... so Pentosin Super DOT4, any others?

Racing fluid doen't need to warm up to work. If you are tracking the car, then you definitely want a race fluid. Unless you get a crazy race fluid like Castrol SRF, you'll be fine for the street. There is no real major downside to race fluid except price.

Motul DOT 5.1, ATE Typ200, or the Pentosin Super DOT4 are all great fluids we recommend for street use.

I have ATE superblue in my car now, got my brakes and lines done too. I believe it is the cause of my squeaky clutch, which began only 2 weeks after changing to superblue. I've heard that ATE Gold (Type 200) is the right choice. I am flushing this saturday with Gold, but have had the superblue in my car for over 7 months and no other side effects besides squeaky clutch. I've read some threads where people have linked the superblue to master/slave cylinder failure. Time will tell.

The Motul 5.1 will be your best bet (http://www.europaparts.com/motul-dot...d-500-mil.html). Any racing brake fluid will be fine (aka you can use it), but as mentioned, you really need to change that stuff at least once a year (and I've been told you need to do it more often if you live in an area that sees a big climate fluctuation, such as the tri-state area, going from 100* in the summer to 20* in the winter).

neither one affects the other as far as you've typed it.
