Question Need some advice on good mods for my 2001 a4 1.8t

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I'm currently running a Borla exhaust system. Everything else about the car is stock and I want the car to be a bit more fun to drive. Right now it only has about 165hp and I want to get around 200-250hp. Any suggestions?

Thanks guys I appreciate it, that's what I've been hearing about alot and I just wanted to get alot of opinions before I go through with it. I want to feel a noticable difference in the power of the car I guess this should do the trick.

a chip alone will put you into the hp range that you are looking for.

Then it's just a matter of supporting the power with:
upgrade intercooler, upgrade dv, maybe upgrade turbo inlet hose/pipe, and new air filter.

After the power comes upgrades to get the most fun out of the car.
So suspension, sway bars if you want to, brakes, and good tires.
APR chip, APR turbo inlet hose, evolution fmic, h&r coilovers, ddm hid, S4 projectors, forge dv, vdo boost gauge.

Thanks kf3506 that was alot of help, i just hope this does not blow a hole in my wallet. I'm not looking to go too serious with all of this. I heard modding becomes an addiction. =0

    stop while you can!

get the giac X chip and a HFC and an upgraded DV and call it good. you wont need a FMIC unless you plan on slapping on a different turbo.

I went with a GIAC chip when I first got my car along with a "hollow" cat and 2.5 piping all the way back. The car really woke up. Get a K&N Drop in panel filter. I think it was around 210hp.

Make sure if you go with GIAC to get a green coolant sensor :)

So I think I'm going to replace the stock K03 with a K04, put a silicone turbo inlet hose, CAI from APR and an R1 diverter valve, no chip.

That sucks =| i know the chip is one of the more popular mods i just dont know if i want to do that. Its going to be a daily driver and im just looking for a little more noticable power. Not a big increase

    its not that much i went from K03s 12psi to k04 18psi to k03s 20 something psi to T04e :)

without a chip you really wont notice a efficient gain. A Cold Air Intake is not worth the money on turbo cars, better off getting a FMIC

Dont really need an FMIC with a k03 either...not untill k04 or bigger. Save that money for coilovers.

Look at my mod list. The chip was the best bang for your buck. I WISH I would have done the suspension next to be able to control that power. Don't waste your time with the tip, Cai, or Fmic unless you plan on going atleast k04.

Get the chip and slap on a suspension. Keep an eye out on the classifieds bc you can pick up some great items, cheap. I'll be selling my ecu with Apr flash on it once I go bt. Atw engine code.

Honestly man, If i were in your shoes i would get a chip/dv and forget about the rest.

A chip is the only *cheap* mod that will give you serious power increase without losing the DD reliability aspect.

    Aren't chips like $400?

I'm at the beginning of modding the Wife's Audi too. Looking at Carbonio, TP, DP, Exhaust, Chip (if I can ever decide on which one), DV, TIP, Trip chip, FMIC, K04 and I think that's it.

PM k0mpresd here on the forums. He can do a flash tune on your 2001 ecu. Probably the cheapest option for a chip. He can also do emission deletes on it as well (secondary air, cat efficiency, etc). Great guy to work with.

I also have an 01' 1.8TQM and so far I've installed a GIAC-X chip, 710N Bosch DV, 034 Motorsports HFC, Techtonics 2.5" downpipe back Borla exhaust, on H&R coilovers and I'm fairly satisfied with it for the time being. I'd recommend checking the classifieds section for the B5 under engine/performance. I got everything for my B5 on there. Luckily everyone was local and I picked up the parts in person and am very happy with the deals I got. Also check out the regional forums and check out the classifieds section in your area. Once my K03s goes I'm going BT. Thinking of GT28RS eliminator kit. Also if your turbo goes scratch the K04 upgrade, I think it's only est. to about 15-30HP more from the K03S.

    GL with your upgrades!

Sry for late response. No, you do not. The GT2871R can be tuned to about 350awhp if tuned very aggressively (rod limits at about 375 for AWM, 400 for AEB). I'm at 307awhp (on a good day) and there is no need for rods. To further show the stability, I have had the same turbo and tune for the last 35k miles.
