I have the day off, can I get this done?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    - Replace drivers side broken tranny bracket
    - Replace cracked tranny mounts with 034 Street Density mounts.

I done about all the mods/maintenance for my car, but this will be the first messing with jacking the tranny up, etc. Does anyone have a link to the DIY for tranny mount replacements AND will it be easy to do the bracket while I'm in there.

And yes, I've searched around, just hoping my friends on here could help me with some quick info as I ACTUALLY have a DAY OFF! :-) TIA.

    b5 6-speed.

so just jack the tranny up a bit once the car is on jackstands, and I should be able to replace all 3 parts? i'm about to start as the car is finally cooled off...

yes...put a piece of wood between the jack and the tranny though... dont jack it to the point that it moves alot though...just enough to support it from falling

It took me around 45 minutes to replace my trans mounts. Very easy just follow the tips given above. Get car on stands, put jack under tranny to support it, you'll have to remove some heat shielding stuff (that was the hardest part as there is not much room up in there), and remove old mounts, slide new mounts in, re-attach the 3-4 nuts to hold the heat shielding material, and voila. You're done.

Not sure on the other part you mention, though.

Ok, the car is on jack stands and this bracket (not the mount) on the drivers side that is broken looks like a MOTHER to get to the top bolt. Any other tips? And yes, to replace the mounts with these 034 ones is going to be the easy part...

the actual brackets that bolt to the tranny will take a bit longer there is a heat shield and a few bolts to remove and a couple a bit akward to get too . if you had a very long hex key it would make it easier there is a small hole to put a hex key through to get to 2 of the bolts.

I've got the jack (with wood block) against the tranny now, but am afraid to jack much pressure on it. I've got the bolts on the mount out, but the mount is still tight as hell in there. I guess I need to jack up the tranny some more? Thanks...

Don't be afraid to apply a little pressure to the transmission with the jack. You will know when you can't go any further. I used this method when replacing the rear diff mount on my 95 S6 (which is also really tight) and it worked out fine. Good luck.

easiest way to take the bracket itself off is by taking the downpipe off also (not hard at all hope u dont have the heatshields on em still) very easy and straight foward shouldnt take more than 45 minutes.to take off and same to install everything back. goodluck taking it off without removing the dp cause that top bolt is not east to get too with the dp right in front of it

+1, I have had a similar experience, albeit with a different platform.

Also, now that the day is coming to an end, how well did things fare for you?

I got called to work in the middle of the job (it's the shits being on call most of your life) and just got home. All the bolts are out, but the tranny doesn't want to move up much when I jack it up with the wood in place. The whole drivetrain and exhaust move with it, so I'm stopping for a bit. If I have to remove the damn DP, I might as well do the piggie project now too...

FYI for anyone with a broken tranny bracket (not the mount) it is NOT a 1 hour job to replace, it's a mother to get the top bolt out...
