    Exhaust gurus needed

I have a 99 2.8 a6. I got the car chipped by giac and was happy with the results. More torque down low. About 2 days after I removed the center resonator and though it sounds better, I lost all that low end torque I gained with the chip. So I'm thinking about doing the exhaust right this time.
My cats are kaput and jersey no longer does mechanical inspections. So here is what I was thinking.
Remove the cats, putting pipes in their place, followed by a y pipe with a single pipe through the middle of the car, followed by another y pipe and out to two flowmaster 44 series. I'm looking for more of a deep sound. I'd like it to be loud, have some backfire/popping, don't care much about drone, and want a proper amount of back pressure to get the low end torque back.
Does my setup sound good or do you have any other ideas?

it will probably be cheaper to have them do dual straight pipes to the mufflers, instead of the y-straight-y setup you mentioned.

I understand that. But I already lost back pressure and torque just by removing the resonator. Wouldn't I lose more by removing the cats as well? I want the y pipe to single to gain back pressure.

not to jack the thread but with the chip you did feel a noticeable difference in low end torque?

Yes. And lost it by removing the back pressure the resonator caused. N/a engines, especially a smaller v6 like the 2.8 needs back pressure.

if your gonna run a y to a single then back to y might be cheaper cos they are not gonna use extra pipes.. but they might charge you the y pipes... do a 2.5" to the Y then 3" single to compensate being a single exhaust then same exiting out the Y if u really like that setup.. then dont use a muffler for it to be loud, just use a pair of 6" to 12" resonator then put some tips on it.. guarantied loud.. or get some cherry bomb resonators..
