    Major Issues?

    Hey guys,

My dad is considering getting my mom a B8 A4 for a DD this Christmas and was wondering if there were any major issues with the B8. Seems like the B8 is having some of the oil consumption issues that the B7 and other models had. I've been searching, but being that it is still a fairly new car, I have not been able to dig up to much.

The car won't be tuned at all and won't really be "enthusiast" owned. It'll be more just to get to and from work, and the occasional trips on the highway. Being that, reliability is a huge concern.

    Thanks for the help guys,
    Eugene

I dont know about the newer models, but high speed and low speed steering wheel vibration issues were fixed with new front-rear control arms, and a new steering hose. Those SHOULD be fixed by now.

Then there are 2 cases of manifold trouble in the higher mileage cars.

I had my front control arms replaced at around 10,000 miles- high speed vibration, and my intake manifold replaced at 17,000 miles due to a stuck flap inside the housing.

Now my rear deck vibrates at WOT, not sure if the exhaust is causing that problem or what....also haven't figured out how to correct the issue.

^^ it's most probably drone, my car will do the same when under a lot of load. Once your freely moving in the higher RPM's it goes away.

and from what I remember, the ones with the troubles had many mods (for the manifold)..could be wrong though

Of these problems: the high speed shuttering - power steering hose, high speed vibration - control arms, and stuck intake manifold flap - new intake, none were caused by modifications and all occurred with less than 20,000 miles on the car. My dealer knows my car is chipped and he said he didn't have any concerns because he knows it did not cause those problems.

Be careful what you are saying.
