VW to cover cost of sludge damage

Yes, this is known, BUT...

You have to prove oil changes. I believe they want to see every 5k, even though original interval was 10k (which is crazy). If you can't prove even 1 oil change, you get nothing.

EDIT: This is incorrect. The article state 50% compensation even without documentation. My bad.

Exactly my thoughts... How could you or anyone else prove the damage was done from sludge.

I think a VW dealer would have to look at the damage first before the repair was done just for that reason. Not sure if they would even allow a 3rd party repair though. In which case, what's keeping them from just billing you double, making your "50%" meaningless? And what about all the people who already went through this and paid through the nose, at a dealer or otherwise?

I guess the article isn't really clear and we should find the real court ruling info.

probaby really tough to actually get VW to pay for it.

I would just give up if you had your engine built either yourself or buy a small shop.

If the damage reimbursement is a open check to your name then great.

If the damage reimbursement is to cover the 50% of the bill from the stealership doing the repairs and only the stealership doing the repairs then forget it.
