So I've never been a big fan of roof racks but the more I see them on other B7's the more fond of them I become. Just wondering if it'll look good.

I know the feeling. I own a B5S4 Avant, and was always joking on people with Roof Boxes....but now I want one! Not only for the look, but for the functionality as well. Yet with all of that said, I wouldn't do a rack with such a clean B7. That means alot, especially since i cant stand the color red...!

What do you haul around with your car that you would need a rack?

If you snowboard or mountain bike at all, a rack is a great investment. Mine has more than paid for itself in the past 2 years that I've had it on the car.

I don't actually haul anything around I was just thinking of doing it for the look. Yours looks great

Thanks! I've added a fairing recently, but don't have any pictures of it installed.
If you don't really haul anything, I'd save the money for something else. No sense in spending $400 that you won't even use. Unless you can get a massive deal on one, (like the B6 Passat racks) I really wouldn't consider getting a roof rack.

In the end, it is your money and your car. Spend it how you want to.

It's a great piece to have functionality wise...I use mine for hauling my growing collection of bikes and my skis around. But there's definitely a hit on fuel economy and wind noise, so if you want it just for looks, I would say skip (plus, the $350 or so you'll spend on one can be used elsewhere imo). And fwiw, I only use mine when I need it (and in the winter when I stop giving a crap about my car)...otherwise it sits in the garage.

Do it only if you use it. Just bought a Votex B6 passat rack for mine. 55$ from GAP, new. Needed to be cut down a bit otherwise fits fine.
Wind noise is not bad at all. Waiting for the rockymounts for my bikes to arrive.

Not necessary if you don't haul stuff around. I love mine (looks great when it's on!). But when I'm not using it often, I take it off.

I think the rack would look pretty cool. Even though you've gone the clean and tasteful route with your car, the rack would look out of place but in a good way. Kind of like a roof rack on a Porsche in the winter - something about making a sports car look utilitarian is cool and unique. Plus you can just take it off in the summer when you rep those new LM's you scored for an uber steeze stance.

As for the fact that you're still under warranty but feel like getting something fun why not go for an Infinity Basslink or something like that to improve the sound-system. Similar price range as a roof rack plus its easily removable and won't void warranty or anything..

So you don't have a problem with it leaving any marks or scratches on your roof? I'm just alittle concerned about that

i polish, wax and then use clear vinyl or you can use lamin-x or 3m clear bra, and cut some rectangles where the foot pads sit, and you're golden.

I agree. I'm looking for something iPhone friendly and from what I've read the Dynavin unit seems to be.

I have mine on with nothing on the car to protect from the rack, and the paint is still in great condition. I just took mine off after having it on for about 6 months straight. As long as you have the rack on right, and you clean it properly after, then it's no biggie.

so i guess the consensus is do it only if im gonna use it. Honestly i was only going for the look. I dont even own a bike lol. I had $500 left over from H2O so i was thinking of picking one up after seeing so many down in Ocean City. I believe im going to spend on a high flow cat instead lol
