I am supposed to get an oil change in the next week or so but my low oil light came on today. How much oil do I have and what brand of oil can I put in until I get the car to the shop?

VW 502 approved oil. A lot of people use Mobil 1 or Castrol Syntec. 5W-40. Put in a quart, and you're good.

Yah its typically a good idea to carry around an extra quart in the trunk.. these engines do burn quite a bit of oil!

To all you guys who need to add oil between oil change, what interval do you follow 5k or 10k miles? I have never looked to my oil level between oil change but I have never seen the low oil light though...

This is the first time I have ever seen the light. I do oil changes every 5k.

I always check the oil level of every vehicle I own when I fill up with gas. I realize most newer vehicles will have some sort of low level warning but it's something I was taught when I was young and it's a good habit to be in. Keeping a quart of whatever oil you used at your last change is a good idea so you can add more as needed. I'm not trusting my Audi's engine to a $9 sensor when it's so easy to check it yourself.

Ever since the oil light chimed on me a month ago for the first time, I started keeping a quart of "Mobil 1 0W-40 European Car Formula" (VW502 Approved) in the trunk just in case.

I noticed my car didn' really burn much oil until I got it chipped. Maybe the added stress on the engine causes it to burn more oil? Or it could be purely coincidental.

I did the first couple oil changes at 10k, and I had to put in a quart at 9k. But I just had to put in a quart now at 3,500, maybe because I'm running 93 octane now, so I guess I'll do the change at 5k.
