    Removing Ashtray?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Does anyone have any instructions on how to remove the front ashtray (next to the cig light adapter) completely from the housing? Any heads up on what panels to remove and where the screws to access may be would be helpful (or better yet if anyone has a copy of the repair manual that shows the diagrams for that part of interior?)

    Many thanks.

Follow my trim removal guide. It is for a B8 A4/S4 but the center console is the same, it will show you how to get it out:

Nice instructions. I just wish Audi would remove the ash tray totally. I smoke the occasional cigar (not in my cars) but would never want any of my cars smelling like an old ash tray.

Are you talking about the ashtray itself or the whole housing? There is a button around the lighter that will release the ashtray and pop it up.

It would be good to add to that write up that the wiring to the buttons around the shifter is very tight and it is very easy to damage those wires especially if you have navigation with the MMI button panel around the shifter and the access start button. It is also easier to take out the four 13mm nuts in this picture than taking apart the center armrest. Once the nuts are out just take out the entire center console and armrest as one piece. The reason I bring this up is I had to replace an airbag control module on an A5 yesterday and I had to take all that stuff out to get to the module along with loosing up the ac tubing to the rear that goes under the center console.

I happen to agree with you but a vast majority of people still do smoke (if you walked around back of my dealership it would look like the entire shop smokes and I am one of four people who don't smoke) and so Audi wants to cater to a large group with an easy accessory. Oddly enough too, the cigarette lighters in these cars and older Audis worked great for actually lighting cigarettes but these cars have a fit when clients plug in other stuff like phone chargers and other junk.

Hardwired the V1 remote display there...it's a great fit and can be covered with the little sliding door. Needed to get access from underneath/behind to run the cable.

Makes sense...but I put mine on top of the steering column in front of the center info display between the speedo & tach, with some Hook and Loop Superlock Fastener (the same stuff used to mount my E-Z Pass to my windshield) from Radioshack (http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=2103345). The main reason being that I move the V1 between four different cars that I drive.

Mounted the splitter & power block on top of the fuse panel with some Ty-Raps, then just fished the wire for the remote display past the column boot and connected it there. The head unit is on my sunvisor, with the wire for that tucked under the door weatherstrip moulding that runs down the A-pillar past the fuse panel.

Please post some pics when you have it finished...I'd like to see what it looks like. Thanks.
