    How soon to chip?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Conventional wisdom says to wait at least until after the first service to chip. Dealer and warranty issues aside, anyone feel you should wait longer or maybe do it right from the get-go in line with the tough love break-in theories? The Audi techs I know all say to break-in the way you intend to drive the car.

I heard this is BS and that the cars come broken in from the factory.

I was told the same thing. That is the norm these days as well. The only thing that is somewhat recommended is waiting until 500 miles to put the car in sport. That was the policy on the RS4 and my dealer recommended it to me but it is not necessary. I am taking my car in next week for the first service but I would have chipped it sooner if it would have been available.

I had the car in Dynamic mode about 30 minutes after driving off the lot. Reason why I waited 30minutes would be because I was still freaking amazed at how freaking amazing the car was. Then when I put it in Dynamic I was freaking amazed all over again :D

I turned ASR/ESP off, put it in Sport mode and hung the tail out coming out of the dealership parking lot bouncing off the rev limiter! No oil burning issues. :D

I actually had the same question come to mind...I'm currently waiting for my ECU to return from APR and I was wondering what would happen if my water pump failed after the mods, could Audi deny my warranty claim?

(an APR exhaust will also be installed this week)

Srsly? Come on..... the water pump is a known issue. They wouldn't even ask, look or inquire about software. Even if it wasn't.... HOW exactly does software cause a water pump to fail?

I would think if you kept quiet about it, it'll never be an issue. It's not like you see the car and can tell. Hell the service writer SHOULDNT be able to tell.. ya know what I mean. And if they asked.. it means they found out.. and you could call them right back out on that. :)

wow, really? is it that outlandish to wonder?

I wish I was as optimistic, obviously my 'wondering' didn't stop me from going ahead, but still...

I had the same doubts when I modded my B5 S4 back in the day and after hearing stories of AW members being denied on warranty claims back then...maybe times have changed.

Yes it is. If you're THAT paranoid, you shouldn't be getting software nor should you mod your car. You always assume the risk with mods. And I am not directing this towards you... this is for everyone.

I've modified every car I've ever owned in the past 20 years and never once have I worried about my mods voiding my warranty.

Ok, well I don't want to go back and forth too much about the topic. Most of us are on this board because we are enthusiasts and we are interested in modding. Why would it be so offensive to consider all aspects of a decision to mod?

I respect your opinion and I'm happy to hear that you've gone 20 years without any issues. I just wanted to throw it out there, maybe someone had some specific knowledge they could share about the topic...after all, that's what the board is for, right?

And if it's due to the lack of knowledge on my part that made you reply, then I'm glad I did ask, so someone could then further educate me.

Anyhow...like I was saying, I still went ahead with it.
