can't you just get one of those cheap cables that runs from your headphone jack on your phone to the input within the car? its not as pretty, but i think these guys are right - bluetooth streamed audio is pretty weak.
you should have said input unless you have the ipod integration on the car.

their is a audi cable that connects where the ipod does and it has a bluetooth module. You can stream it from there, but i THINK you will have to control it via the phone.

    OR

you can get this: it has a pandora app that is linked to your iphone, maybe pioneer has some kind of add on device or something similar for the Android phone.

You need any bluetooth dongle that supports that particular bluetooth profile (A2DP in this case), which is what the AMI BT dongle does.

you dont need bluetooth... you can use 1) ipod/iphone -> AMI 2) headphone jack -> AMI

both of those cables run about 40$ from your dealer.

Nifty idea, I've never really thought to run Pandora through my car speakers. May have some difficulty thumbs up/downing though, heh.

Storm, is it safe to assume you already have a Pandora app for your phone?

I do it all the time with my iphone cable linked to the mmi. It wants to just default to the ipod music so pause that and open the pandora app on your phone and hit play. You have to control it thru the phone but volumne works thru speakers.

doesn't work on the 2011 version. When you plug in your iPhone it default tries to play it as an ipod. you can stop the song playing by going to pandora and hit play... but a few seconds into the song it fades out and the ipod music starts back up. You cannot pause the ipod from the phone, only from the car control.

When you plug in the iPhone it starts the iPod and says Accessory connected. doubt tap the button to pull up controls for the iPod, but you cannnot pause it from the phone. You have to pause it from the car control. after the control pauses it and you go to pandora there is no Audio.

If you leave teh ipod playing and go to pandora and just hit play... it shuts down the ipod for a few seconds as it plays about 3 seconds of pandora and then pandora fades out and the ipod is active again.

I have not figured out how to force the iPod to shut off.

I have an HTC Evo as well and would welcome using Pandora. Regarding the cable shown in the Ebay ad, is the end that connects into the ipod car connection called an "AMI" and the end that plugs into the phone just a 3.5mm "head phone" end? Sorry, not too technical when it comes to this stuff.

It does work for the 2011s. It's just a pain in the @$$. You have to cancel out the iPod 3x before it will stream pandora freely.

Where can you buy an AMI **> 3.5mm auxiliary that is a decent length so as to let us control the phone from the driver's seat or center console area?

All I can find are the short adaptor cables.

Just get an extension from there - that's what i did.

And btw- for those looking at the a2dp bluetooth streaming, it is *NOT* compatible with MMI 3g. I'm still waiting for some solution from audi for this. It's crazy that something so simple and cheap that has been around for years is not capable with any addon for our 42+k cars.

I assume you mean get a long 3.5mm - 3.5mm extension? Will the introduction of a second cable weaken the connection and sound quality?

if I'm streaming Pandora and someone calls my droid... the phone pauses Pandora and answers the call.

First off - I have an HTC Evo....not an iPhone.

I bought the AMI - USB (female) adapter from ECS Tuning. I then connected my USB-micro USB cable to that adapter. I can't get Pandora to play through the car speakers. I keep getting the pre-loaded mp3's playing instead. How can I get Pandora to run through the speakers?

No, because USB only does what is on your mass storage. You need the 3.5mm audio cable->AMI.

AMI -> 3.5mm is Analog Audio

AMI -> USB is a purely digital data channel.

you cant do AMI -> USB : USB to 3.5mm ... it simply will not work.

For me the digital to digital is better anyway... even if it means losing pandora or Mog.
I can just listen to what I have on the Evo. Will the ami -> USB allow the music files
to show up in the mmi interface like an ipod would?

Any ideas for Bluetooth streaming...even if the sound quality isn't great the convenience is key. I'm going to run to the stealership to see if they have any suggestions.

This site offers a BT dongle that is ready to go with an un-modded AMI cable:
