    Compustar Starter Installed!

I know its not really recommended for our cars but living in Montreal and having to deal with the crazy cold up here, I cant survive parking outside all night with out a starter...

I got the compustar one. it was super difficult for the technician to program because our cars are not simple to connect... they had to send a compstar engineer technition to work on my car. they told me that they installed it before on an 09' a4 but that they had re-write the software to fit in the 10-11' b8 just for me...

the starter works perfect and honestly worth every penny.

absolutely would be worth it in montreal. if i wasn't moving into a condo w/ underground garage I'd install one in no time!
not to mention you can cool down the car in the summer as well.

did they charge you anything additional for installation?

wow, that must an intensive labor job. I am actually scared on letting someone do this to my car because of the complexity involved with the electrical system in our Audi. Which installer did you go to. Maybe I will make a road trip to Montreal just for this install.

just find a local one w/ compustar one because they now have documentation on installing it for all b8s now

the compustar tech guy told me he had to re design the software and i am officially the first in north america to have it, they based their install cads on my car...

i had to go in 3 times! the whole this worked except the start button, due to the fact that we have an electronic e-brake plus my car is manual... he installed all new firmware... and works like a charm................ so far

    *****UPDATE*****

So its been 3 weeks now that i have this starter, and it takes getting used to... for example since my car is manual/ stick you cant keep the car in gear when you park, you need to set the starter before you leave the car or else it wont start...the problem I've been having lately is, before i leave the car I put the heat and my seat warmer so that when i get in the car in the morning its nice a toasty... but no matter what I do as soon as the car is turned on the defrost and a/c come on! is there a default setting that requires the car to have the a/c on? can I fix it?

I find this a bit crazy that regardless of the sophistication of the electronics in our rides you would rather jeopardize the operation of your vehicle than put up with a little cold! Bunch of pussies.....

What model compustar starter did you get installed? I want to do a little research to see if it would be a good choice for me.

having the a/c on with temp up high is not a bad thing... it's just pulling moisture out of the air that way.

I'm not seeing that on their webpage.. I see these: http://www.compustar.com/remotestartalarm/

And the two-ways look nice. I've got a Directed two-way alarm+autostart on my hyundai, and love it, but i'm afraid to let anyone touch the audi cause it's so complicated.

If what you say is true, and compustar does have information on how to do it properly on a b8, i'd really love to validate from one of my local dealer/installers if they can get the information to do it properly.

Could you take a look at those current models on the webpage and see if you see yours please?

    Thanks!

Hmm.. I guess when i get time, i'll go head over to my local compustar dealer and have them validate that one of the nice two-way models can and will work on our b8's, and to do so in writing. I'll update the thread when that happens (in the coming months).

    Thanks for checking!

Your specific model works perfectly, which may function differently and have different components than the other models that they offer for sale on their website (and in stores). Knowing your model works is good, but it's not a definitive guarantee that every model they offer, from 200$ to 600+$ will.

Thanks, sir! I have absolutely no doubt i will. I really want an auto-start, cause i have to garage the hyundai for the winter and i only have a one car garage. I'm sure you understand that i dont want to freeze myself when i get in the audi on the way to work after i unbury the car from the snow. Hehe.
