What kind of key came with a 96?

I have a 96 A4 and the car came with 2 spare keys. The dealer actually sent me a flip out key but it was obviously not for my car as it was a key that was cut in the middle instead of the edges.

Now that winter is comin up, i wanna look into gettin a remote (stock or some ebay one) incase the locks on my doors freeze at the mountains. Just trying to see which way is most reasonable considering i don't even know what the original key looks like. lol.

i believe you would have to go aftermarket, because the 96's dont have any kind of wireless system.
The key the sent you is laser cut. Call them back and say they sent you the wrong one

Lol i just kept the key. I've had it for over a year now. Just never found the time to send it back to them, and then just forgot about it.

Not sure really but I kinda thought that 96's could have a remote just not a flip key. I thought they had a separate remote like most other cars.

I mean they had it in the older Audi's I don't see why they would lose the option completely.

no they didnt have the flip key factory, same thing with the 97's too, they had either just a key or a key and a separate remote

I have a seperate key and remote on my 97 the key also has a little light in it.

Ok, so i can just pick up a seperate remote and follow the procedures to make it recognize the new remote?

I Just had my backseat out and i was pretty sure that i had the module for the remote there. Just wasn't 100%

my 95 audi a6 had a wireless system and it wasnt middle cut it was edges. i wonder if he could buy a blank and have someone program it

Thats what i was gonna try to do. My step-dad just bought a blank generic flip key more my mom's car so she didn't have to have a remote + key. I'll try to find one and see what i can make work.
