    Question Rearview Mirror Issue!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
A strange situation. My rearview mirror has a large brown translucent spot in the center of it. It almost looks like fluid is in it. When I press the the mirror glass it will move. The rearview mirror will not auto-dim either. Any idea what has happened here?

Also after I noticed this, the side view mirrors on my doors will not auto-dim when a bright headlight is behind me. Are all the mirrors linked somehow???

    I am baffled!

Well the sensor for the auto-dimming mirrors is that spot on the rear view so if that is not working then the sides will not

The auto dimming mirror has fluid in it sandwiched between the mirror and a glass front. The fluid is electrochromatic. It will darken with electricity applied. When the seal brakes, the fluid drips out and will most likely be found on your shifter handle. You are looking at the remnants of that happening. Just a little fluid left. There is no fix for this except replacement. Around $100 on ebay (I have bought 2 now) and I am sure much more at the dealer. Best of luck!

Sit Down, take a look at it, take it apart, and FIX it!

Are the side mirrors auto-dimming or just anti-dazzle? My impression was that the side mirrors were blue tinted, not auto dimming. Maybe we can get a group purchase together on these mirrors - mine did something similar and I'd like a new one, preferably with a compass and a real time spot/forward currency quote ticker.
