The scare of my life yesterday.

So I'm driving my car yesterday I decided to go for a nice long drive as I haven't driven my car for a while I don't usually take it to go to work. So I went to some outlets about an hour and a half from my house.

On my way home I'm driving and I hear something like someone knocking on my door! Obviously that wasn't what happened but it felt like something was rattling around in my passenger side front wheel and then it just stopped.

I figured maybe a rock or something went under my car no big deal I'll check to see if anything is scratched when I get home.

I'm driving down the highway I apply the brakes, NO BRAKES!
ALL my pressure is gone! I'm freaking out because I'm driving like 100km and I literally have no power in my breaking! So now I'm terrified because if I have to come to a complete stop I can't. So I start driving at like 60 km all the way home.

When I get home I put my car in my drive way and I see all kinds of smoke coming out of the front passenger wheel, I didn't jack the car because it was late but I can see some kind of wire that is "not normal looking or out of place" on the caliper.

Not to mention a nice big chunk of my caliper paint is scratched off.

I checked my brake fluid and I lost like more than half of it.

I'm at a loss of words for the scare I got and what could have caused that.

I changed my calipers to S4 calipers and I have a 1999 A6 2.8. In order for them to fit the wheel I had to shave some of the caliper off but I really doubt the caliper "broke because of heat...The caliper was cold and I don't ever do hard breaking with the car, ever. When I got home I was touching the caliper and it wasn't hot it was more like warm. I only shaved off like 1 MM or 2.

I'm sure I tore a line somehow but I'm asking myself how could I have tore a break line, what could have happened that I tore a break line?

I thought the caliper rubbed too but I can't see any paint smears on the rim or damage to the rim
my mechanic told me that if some paint is smeared off it could be the break fluid could have went on the caliper because it's super corrosive.
My biggest fear is something happened to the caliper.
But 2 mechanics said it's most likely I tore a line

Breaking a line is not uncommon, the rubber gets old and the internal pressure (close to 1000psi) of the brake fluid can cause them to rapture....or, one of the fittings might have given as well. Definitely get under there and take a good luck

    I got the results.
The bolt that holds the front part of the caliper to the back part came off!
I just have to get a new bolt

Glad that it was easy fix. just to prevent the line breaking SS lines. Even though that wasnt the case this time around, but its always a safe mod to do.
