IINM, cam chain tensioners are between 4 and 6 hundred dollars but searching around today on Pure MS, I found this > http://www.purems.com/products/product.php/II=1589

I was always told it's recommended to replace then when you have heads rebuilt but I personally wasn't gonna spend that much unless they were bad and had to be replaced. Anyways, just wanted to put this out there.

Yes, replace no matter what the cost. this is a part that goes out often and can cost much more down the line.
These are what you need. Normally about $1100 anywhere else for the pair. this is a good deal.

I understand the importance of changing them but there should be noticeable slack in the chain if needed replaced correct?

Log blocks 91 and 92 IIRC. That will tell you if they are dying. On a WOT pull you should see the cam adjustment go from 0 to 22 at around 4000 rpm IIRC. Both should be doing the same thing. If one or both aren't holding 22 then it's broken and you should replace it.

If you compress those cam adjusters to remove the cams they are likely to break. That's what happened to mine :-/

That tensioner is for the 1.8.. The 2.7 tensioners are about $300-450 each. If you building a high dollar motor, this is something I'd put on the parts list.
