Question about quattro system on a a3

I was searching the web and even went on audi canada website and i saw that the quattro system was only available with the automatic transmission , well for the 2010 model...
I dont know in which year the model started but, is there a year that the a3 come with a manual transmission and a quattro system ?
I actually have a b5 1.8t and im looking to buy a a3 soon ... but if it doesnt offer any quattro system, ill have to pick another model..
    Thanks

be aware that the a3 quattro is NOT the same full time 4-wheel quattro in the A4 and up.

The A3 has full time AWD, what it doesn't have is permanent AWD, which the R8 does not have either.

With the Gen 2 Haldex Controller and switch, quatto is right at hand. Switch the controller into "Race" mode, in particular, locking the rear axles to the driveline, splitting the torque more evenly to the front and rear and it's a whole new ballgame. Xlnt upgrade.

    Agreed!

And DSG with true manual shifting and high rev limit is great with the VR6.

Haldex will transfer torque to the rear wheels depending on condition, steering angle, how far down accelerator is pressed down, etc. The issue is that it might not anticipate unexpected situations like hitting a ice patch going straight, starting from a standstill, getting on the gas and encountering a slip. Then it would have been almost all FWD with sudden transfer of torque to the rear.

The R8 on the other hand, is RWD until the front loses traction given it uses viscous coupling.

as far as i know that's the only difference between the A3 and S3... S3 is quattro and 6mt. from what i've seen, the S3 has the same motor as the A3 as well... at least the older ones anyway. too bad we cant have it in the US. that was also the sole reason i decided against it. rather just get an old R32. lol
