Need your humble owners opinion - helping a buddy find a B6/B7 S4 have question

He has a 35k budget... he was looking at '08s with low miles for the low/mid 30's but I suggested he might be better off finding a low mileage 05 or 06 for the mid/low 20's and buying an extended warranty. I apologize i'm not on 'this side' of the forum often and this info is probably here somewhere, but thought I'd make a new thread to get a couple quick questions answered:

    1) anyone recently purchased an extended warranty on an 05/06 with ~50k miles for like additional 3yrs/50k miles or so (coverage to 100k)? what was the going rate?
    2) any HUGE reason to take an 08 over an 05/06 (aside from styling differences).

I just think he'd be happier spending 25k on a car, 3k on a warranty and 7k in JHM go fastness.

Your insight and two cents is greatly appreciated!! TIA.

    1. I bought an 2006 avant with 60K on it and purchased a 2 year/24k extended warranty through USAA for $2300.
    2. Obviously less wear and tear no an 08 vs 05/06. Other than that not really any other reason that I an see.

thanks.. my buddy drives a lot (20k+ year) so I guess it would probably be close to double.. maybe a little less (say $4k) for a 4/48 if it's an option. thanks for the real world info! anyone else?

B7's are from 2005.5 onward, and so anything since then would be very similar in performance and reliability. I agree that an older, lower mileage version is a good option as long as it costs less even with the extended warranty. But if he truely has $35k to spend I'd personally get a 2007/8 that is Audi certified and has less than 40k miles.
