    VAG-COM Problems

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I know there are so many posts about VAG-COM, but I could not find the answer that I was looking for. I did some codes on my car today and I got to say that the VAG-COM software is just amazing. However, I ran into quite a few problems. Lots of the settings (bits) were not where they said they would be. Also lots of them were not there. For example I could not change the setting to have my fog lights on with the high beams. But the most annoying thing to me was the interior "ambient lighting". It was not where it was supposed to be and after I activated it and turned it on thru the Hidden Menu it did not work. The "Ambient Lighting" setting is in my "Car" menu now but it is grayed out. Anyone have this problem and know how to fix it. Thanks so much.

I had the same issue... do you have a 2011? I think audi must have changed some settings in the software.

If any vag com gurus can shed some light that would be great.

No I have a 2010, but things were all weird. I found most of the things that I wanted to do, but hardly none of them were where they were supposed to be.

Can you do a list of the problems in your coding - and maybe take a photo of VCDS where you think you don't have the Bytes or bits in the units ??

Both of you are the original registered owner of the Vag-Com and what version of VCDS are you both running ?

I also was not able to successfully do the ambient lighting mod on my 2011. Got the grayed out option as well. Don't think that's a vcds problem though. Using current version of VCDS.

I am the original registered owner of the Vag-Com. i actually just got the ambient lighting to work. I found some info on it in the B8 A4 forum. Here is what you have to do,

"1. Adjustable Footwell Lighting (Ambient Lighting)
    09 Cent. Elect.
    Coding 07
    Long Coding Helper
Click on Byte 16, and you should have the following stock setting: binary = 0000 1111 (hex = 0F). To enable Ambient Lighting, enter either of the following codes: binary = 0100 1111 (hex = 4F). Apparently, 0100 0011 will also work, but I didn't verify as the first code worked.
Then in the hidden menu, go to car/carmenuoperation/interior light and change the slider from 0 to 1. Then hit return and go to cardevicelist and enable (check) the Interior Light item.
Finally reset the MMI (hold down Setup,Center Button, and Upper Right Button - then release to reset)."

This worked for me, and it is no longer grayed out. The only thing I am having a problem with now is getting the fog lights to stay on with the high beams.

I think you should set the "car/carmenuoperation/interior light" to 5 - then you'll be able to adjust the brightness during driving.

The coding for "Front Fog Lights stay on with High-beams" should be this one:
    Code:
    [09 – Cent. Elect.]
    [Coding - 07] -> [Long Coding Helper] -> Byte 4 Bit 1 - Change 1 to 0

same, just updated it yesterday. The change suggested by 2010S4 worked... All is right in the world again. I still find it odd that my car is different than most of the guides out there when it come so coding.

    Thanks for the help all!

I took a picture of the Vag-Com screen where I cannot seem to figure out how to get the fog lights to stay on with high beams, but I can not figure out how to post the picture on here. What do I have to do, doe sit have to be put on some website first and then copy the URL of it, there is no way to just upload a picture from my computer? Thanks

Thanks, here is the pic. As you can see there is no bit 1, now maybe I can change the binary, but I am not sure what to do. This is for the fog lights

Yeah, you need to change bit 1 in the binary field.

Bit 1 is the second digit from the right xxxxxx1x -> xxxxxx0x

When you have changed the bit, then you need to move the focus away from the binary field, with e.g. the Tab key - and then close the Long Coding window and click "Do It!".

Ok thanks, I was wondering how the binary correlated to the bit. I was not sure if it went from left to right or right to left. Thanks so much. I will give it a try today.

Now you are about to enable the Front Fog Lights - maybe you should enable the "Rear Fog Lights stay on with High-beams" as well
    Code:

Oh please no, there are enough idiots with rear fogs on all the time as it is. Fog is not meant for high beams, therefore why have rear fogs on with high beams>

Yes but not directly, you need to enable the DRL's to be on at 100% brightness with parking and headlights, then go in and disable the amber sidemarker light to come on with parking lights. This will let you put it to parking lights with just DRL's on and have fogs lights on too.

You could also enable the fogs as DRLs if you want.

    Byte 02
    bit 0 -
bit 1 - front side markers as DRL
bit 2 - headlights as DRL
bit 3 - fog lights as DRL
bit 4 - LED strip as DRL
    bit 5 -
bit 6 - side markers as DRL
bit 7 - tail lights as DRL

Check out the site. It's not the most polished but there is a lot of good information there.

nooo stop calling me an idiot!!!! lol

I didn't even know what these codes do initially, as i didn't know fogs will shut off when i pull the high beam, but then, i determined that it bothers me when i'm running with fogs and trying to look at the exit numbers on the highway, and the fogs just suddenly turn off. So i enabled this code.

On the other hand, when you're in rural area where there is no public lamps, i guess fog lights play a role in illuminating the road better along with high beam. So that's when it comes in handy ;p
