Anybody installed OEM backup parking sensors yet?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
They have them in the accessories catalog and I have found them on ebay.co.uk pre painted to audi colors but I have no idea if they are OEM or not and whether they interface with the on board screen to show the radar etc.

I believe the ones listed in Audi's catalog are aftermarket and just rebranded by Audi...
The sensors actually protrude from the bumper whereas the OEM ones are flush...

David was working on a DIY on retrofitting OEM sensors (he was adding front sensors, but the same method applies for rear) before he went under the radar....

Ahh that is interesting. I'm not sure what you mean by "protuding" looking at the accessories catalog (page 12) they look pretty flush to me. It doesn't mention if it ties into MMI with no nav.

The parking sensors from the Accessories catalogue link above certainly do not protrude. They do appear slightly different form the factory sensors in that they have a double ring around the sensor.
They do look very good though. I'd interested in their part number.

In Europe the "Genuine" Audi retrofit 8K0054630 is a rebranded Cobra kit with a multi-plug harness to allow easy fitment.

It operates as a standalone unit, which is not adjustable through the MMI and most importantly the sensors sit proud of the rear bumper.
I have not seen the unit in operation but I believe that it is one of the better aftermarket add on kits.

I've retrofitted the OEM factory sensors on the rear, which was probably not much more work than the other sensors but looks and functions so much better.
I used Audi sensors and harness from ebay, after 2 attempts the correct control unit was sourced again from ebay, the most difficult bit was sourcing brackets to hold the sensors behind the bumper.
I discovered that the brackets are not available as an Audi part but they are very similar to the VW Passat B6 brackets which are available.
The bumper postions for the sensors are marked behind the bumper.
I don't have any photos atm but when it's bright I'll try and post some up.

Nope, got the info from ETKA, ElSA WIN and Kufatec in Germany who also gave me the tip about the B6 Passat brackets.
It wasn't an overly complex job, linking the unit to the sensors is attaching plugs, drilling or cutting your bumper is nerve racking as the hole cut out must be perfect as it is always visible.
Linking the sensor unit to the CanBus is a little tricky it also requires routing cables from the boot (trunk) to just above the front passenger footwell.
This is also where the unit can be connected to 12v and ground.
The unit then needs Vagcom to activate the MMI/AMI controls.....it writes to be a bigger job than it was!

I wanted to, I was just waiting for David's guide...
I'm not so sure that it's coming anymore...

If the process is well documented, and the price is right, I still might want to do this...

I do know that I wouldn't want to use the Audi rebranded aftermarket solution...

I'm putting front and rear OEM sensors on my B8: in the weekend I connected all the wiring loom, that must cross half car...from the trunk, on the right side, under the glovebox, under the center column, under the steering wheel and finally in the motor...saturday afternoon until sunday at 5:00 pm o'clock...a long but a real OEM work, with kufatec cable; only one kufatec cable was short and I had to make longer it.
I tested the parts, all work, also the MMI visualization, now the sensors (from ebay) are in the bodywork to respray them...I hope that other paint can't create problems.
In the next weekend, if I have all the missing parts (like the ecu support and sensors supports) I will drill the bumpers with a 18mm cirular jigsaw..I hope that the drill will be perfect!

    Hi Il signor zetec,

Does yours have audi parking system plus? i.e. have th epicture of the car? Is the Audi parking system plus a separate module? Hard to fit?

    Thanks,
    K.

yes, I'm putting audi parking system plus. If you want to put only rear sensors, you must use another pdc ecu. It's a long work, but if you mount only rear sensors, the work is more fast and you can connct all the cable (positive, negative, CAN H and CAN L) also on the right rear fusebox/parking brake ECU, putting the buzzer near the right C-pillar

Thanks. If I want audi parking system plus do I need a new bumper? Also do you have the part numbers of everything I need for this? Can Audi system plus exist only for rear or do I have to have both rear and front?

I will drill my old bumpers. I can do for you a bill of material, but do you want to mount only rear or also front sensors? Audi parking system plus is possible only with front and rear sensors

A little more detail from my set up.
My car had no parking sensors fitted, I've the Chorus radio with the 6.5" AMI colour screen.
I fitted rear only sensors to my existing bumper the system is controllable from my AMI but there is no graphic display only the aural beep.

Stupidly, I did not take pix whilst I was installing the sensors and I know a write up without pictures is almost worthless. I've a few projects on-going atm but if I get a chance I'll try and pop the bumper off and try to get a few shots up.

For those interested the parts I used were as follows:-

    The OEM Sensors; 4 needed

    p/n 420 919 275
(Used from eBay, Ok to gently remove previous colour and respray to match my car)

    The Passat bumper brackets
(the letters refer to the position on the bumper left to right) These do require a little modification, just coarse sandpaper to remove a plastic collar to allow the sensors to
protrude to the right depth through the Audi bumper.

    p/n 3C5919491 J @ €5.64 ea.
    p/n 3C5919491 H
    p/n 3C5919491 G
    p/n 3C5919491 F

4 O-Ring grommets (seals between the sensor and the bumper hole)
    p/n 4L0886373 @€0.85 ea.

    1 Speaker (horn)
    p/n 8E0919279 @€16.64

1 Wiring Loom from the PDC Sensors to the PDC Control Unit (the D is for a saloon without lane change assist)
    p/n 8K0971104 D (eBay)

    1 PDC Control Unit
    p/n 8K0919475 B (eBay)
(the B is for rear sensors only.)
Initially I had a unit with 8K0919475A. This unit kept throwing up an error about missing front sensors so it only works with front and rear. It did briefly show the car graphic though.
I had to buy a retrofit loom http://www.kufatec.de/shop/product_i...--Audi-A4.htmlfrom Kufatec that connects the PDC control unit to the car canbus and 12v supply.(€39.00 plus shipping)

I split the install over 2 afternoons, on the first I removed the rear bumper and cut out the holes. As has been discussed before the sensor locations are marked from behind the bumper, with the centre marked with a cross.
Il Signore, I used a 18.6mm Q MAX sheet metal Die and punch like this one...

(The holes are supposed to be 18mm but I couldn't get a punch that size) which gave me a really clean cut, my hand would definitely be too shakey to drill it!!

I used superglue to bond the brackets to the bumper instead of using the adhesive tape.
As my sensors were second hand they were the wrong colour. I was wary about sanding, re-priming, painting and lacquering the sensors but they work fine.
When they were dry I mounted the sensors into the brackets & connected the wiring loom and re-installed the bumper.

The second day was routing wiring. The PDC control unit lives in the RHS or the boot. Its easy to route the wiring from the bumper through a grommet just under the RH rear light.
The wiring from the PDC unit to the Canbus and power supply is a bit of a pain.
On LHD cars it isn't too bad as the connections are made behind the fuse panel on the passenger side.
Once hooked up I activated the parking assist features using Vagcom and the install was complete.
I don't have the exact Canbus wiring instructions in front of me at the minute but if they're needed i'll dig them out.

Overall really happy with the install, I'll get a pic up when it's bright and not raining!!
I'm just in the middle of installing headrest monitors (Nightmare job and will probably move them) and an Xcarlink interface which initially looks pretty good.

Hello Aeromac, I found a jigsaw of 18 mm, it is from an italian factor, STELLA BIANCA.
    For the o-rings, I used another code: 1T0 919 133 C
Then I used also the PDC control unit support code 8k0 907 297
As sensor supports, I will use for front and rear 4 "3C5 919 491 M" and 2 "3C5 919 491 N" with 6 biadesive piece "3C0 919 939"; for the two central supports, depends on with type of grill you have
To make front and rear, you need also another buzzer, other 4 sensors and a PDC ecu with letter A-C-E and newer that I don't remember...

    Hi there!

I also intend to buy OEM rear sensors (buyed from ebay but AUDI part with logo and so...), is there anywhere a HOW-TO or just pictures?
My main concern is how to pass the cables to the front...

    Thanks!

Has anyone bought the kit from Kufatec. Seems like it's got all the necessary parts in one spot without having to mess around buying individually from eBay. Any thoughts?

Yes, you have all the parts together...but if you want to "lose" a little time on ebay, then buy the cable from kufatec, you will spend less than the half price...
I bought all for 475,30 euros for front and rear system with visualization...but I have again 4 sensors and one rear pdc control unit to sell: I bought these parts not necessary because they were in special offers on ebay.

Any update on the front PDC mod? I was able to buy an second hand A4 s-line (well original S4 car) bumper in good condition. It comes stock with front PDC holes and if the guy is not ripping me, it will come with the original PDC sensors. Although my car only has rear PDC i was considering to upgrade it to have full PDC (front and rear + mmi).
I'm checking with the guy if he can sell me the original wires, module and if not mistaken i also need a new buzzer. Not sure on the buzzer though as it isn't been mentioned in that Kufatec retrokit.
I hope he still have the complete kit for sale somewhere, but i couldn't find it between the other parts of the original S4 car he is selling.
Hopefully he can help me out.
If not i was wondering what the original OEM part number are i need to look for. Somehow i'm getting confused what the exact PDC module i need. I'm offcourse refurring the the last letter of 9K0 919 475 "?".
I'm planning to add rear camera aswell if i find a good priced kit (need the mmi video input module aswell :( ), but afaik that doesn't need connection to the PDC module right? Hence my confusion about all the different PDC modules.

    Just to bump myself.
Just to inform others, i checked with Kufatec and they are able to sell customized kits. Meaning, like in my case i was able to buy a second hand S4 bumper with front PDC sensors and sensor wiring.
They confirmed they can sell the remaining PDC front items and module to retrofit to PDC plus. Kit comes with installation guide and the needed VAGcom codes (at a nice price imho).
Turns out my dealer knows jack about audi's (told it required svm coding) or maybe they don't want to do it since audi doesn't sell the kit.
I will report back when i hopefully got it working. Will try to add picture of the installation and if Kufatec allows, the needed coding.
*Decided to wait with reverse camera as i need to much expensive parts (camera kit + display interface). But who knows one day....

Any updates on this yet? Sounds exciting!! I've seen the kit on Kufatecs website. I wish there was a kit for just the rear with the mmi integration.

Pyknosis, I don't think this is a dead thread! Your dealer can do it but the package they offer in their accessories kit is not the one from factory with the on screen graphics but just a traditional beep beep system that's carried by Audi.

Yea I saw that kit. I was hoping there'd be a way for them to retrofit the factory system with graphics. Obviously I'd have to throw down for a controller but if it can plug into the MMI all I'd need is sensors and a harness? I did some Googling and saw that retrofitting the camera would need changes to the MMI unit so that might be out.

Hey I'm just trying to figure out where the can bus high and low are so the I can install the wire pins into them thanx for the help

Last question aside from the black wire with the ring terminal which is obviously ground we have no idea what these other three wires the brown orange and red with white stripe go to and cannot find anything on the thread about them but they obviously trigger the system

I think this thread is dead I'm in the same boat as u but the red and white go to the fuse panel in the trunk with a 5amp fuse to it I believe the other two is can bus high and canbus low which both go to the comfort control module and I'm not sure which harness

Thanks! Did you get it all working? I got the kit through ebay and the seller finally sent me wiring instructions in German and it turned out to be a Kufatec kit.

So for the red wire to the fuse box, where exactly does it go to the fuse panel? there's like 50 slots....

You need to find a fuse which is only active with the ignition on. Use a multimeter to find the right one, there are several empty slots like this.
