I've driven my car HARD* for the past 800mi since the test started and I've never seen the MMI indicator stay full for so long.

I've seen the MMI fluctuate also.
Sometimes as much as a 1/4 of a quart.
So I'm going to just keep running it till the low oil warning comes on.

For me high RPM driving did not help. We tried all methods, though my wife is not a conversative driver, but her commute is fairly short (5 miles). The more I driven it aggressively, the more oil it burned. At one point, it ate almost a quart in 600 miles of long aggressive driving. I could understand on some high performance engine that oil consumption is high (V8s with 8-9 qt capacity), but the TFSI is only 4 qt. Loosing a quart is losing 25% oil capacity.

I hope you're not planning on keeping the car past the warranty period with that driving style.

I was told by my Audi tech , aka my best friend in the whole world conveniently located 2 houses down from me, that the problem is what ItsDubC was talking about , most people just get in their cars and drive them normally and the there's no pressure build up.
I know gas is expensive but we have to let the our car have it once in a while.

Actually my driving habits were originally established as an attempt to prevent or delay the onset of carbon build-up, which is a known issue on Audi NA engines but hasn't yet been proven on our 2.0Ts AFAIK. I never noticed oil consumption issues until I got new tires and babied the car to break them in

What you are saying is Audi should either let their customers know to rev their engine often or remap the tip tranny to be more aggressive? Keep mind that this would be for all the population (even in countries where people cant do faster than 35 mph due to traffic), not just us enthusiast.

I would take the information with a grain of salt, regardless who may have said it. The kind of oil consumption that you and a few others here have experienced is far from the norm, no matter how the car is driven.

Some numbers would be nice, how about a poll? Maybe something a long the lines of such....

() I generally drive conservatively and don't have oil consumption issues.
() I generally drive conservatively and do have oil consumption issues.
() I generally drive aggressively and don't have oil consumption issues.
() I generally drive aggressively and do have oil consumption issues.

We can define aggressive driving as engine RPM's above 4k a couple of times per trip.
We can also define oil consumption issues as ~ 1qt/2k or worse

There's a thin line between marketing and what it really is. The manual says 1 quart per 1000 it's normal, if I put in 10 quarts between oil changes do I really have to change the oil? Lol

Ask your dealer about the pcv fix. That should reduce your current consumption. The rest is just how the engine is made and broken in.

Wow, that's almost a quart every tank of gas. I'd take that to a tech, you might have a valve issue or worse :( Is the back of the car covered in oil after you drive? Notice any blue smoke? You might have the first 2-stroke A4

The year isn't really important. My 09 burns very little oil (and I drive it daily like a getaway car ). There have been many reports of various MY's burning oil while others are quite normal. There's even been a few that received new engines because of excessive oil consumption. Take it to a dealer and have it looked at.

That's alot of miles, hope this isn't where all our engines are headed.

That is definitely an abnormal amount of oil being consumed, no idea why, and no way for you to tell. Gotta take it in for testing

How much is going to cost?? I just don't understand how were buying 50k dollar cars and haveing problems with consuming oil. I had a lancer evo 8 before this and i would beat the sh*t out of it and worked beautiful i now buy my 09 audi for 30k. Yea its nice looking and has navi and all the good features but seriously 50 grand for problems like this i'm disapointed in audi's... I use to always want one but in ways I wish i can go back in keeping the lancer evo cuz it had more power and never had problems like this..

This is the only problem i have with them, I will prob never leave the audi family lol but im told once its done it will no longer have this problem......... for everyone if you burn a quart at 1000 miles bring it in bc audi thinks it should be 2500... so if you still got warranty go and say check out the psitions

The only problem.. I'm past due my warranty and I burn proably one quart for every 1500-2000 miles.. So how much was it again $2500.. What would be my other option... I can not beleive how you guys are not mad at these problems its not like were talking about a 2004 audi a4 that only cost 7 grand were talking about 09-12 audi a4 that we all easly spent over 25000 for our cars...

Oil Gauge in MMI and Oil Alert VAG-COM Help

I've taken my car in to Audi before regarding the oil consumption and they did the consumption test and said it falls within Audi guidelines. My concern is my gauge might not be truly accurate. I bought a dip stick from ECS but it turns out it displays on the low side. The MMI says i'm on low (no red in the bar) however I have had no warning on the dash.

Did I accidentally kill the alert in all my VAGing or does this just mean it hasn't reached that threshold yet? Anyone know where I can check in VAG-COM to see if its enable or disabled (the alert that is).

FYI this will be the 4th quart i will have to put in my car since new. :(

The dipstick reads full on the 'A" in 'MAX' so you should compare it to what's in the MMI.

The 'add oil' alert doesn't come on as soon as the bar is empty.
It typically takes a little longer. I add oil when I get 1/2-3/4 qt down.

Update: Just had to add another quart of oil at 12478 miles. So pretty much every 4,000 miles I'll have to plan on putting in a quart. Any recommendations on what oil to put in?
