You should not have to pay for the sunroof deflector, there is a bulletin about this and it is done for free, but they will probably bug you about having to test drive the car to listen for it before they replace it !

Have them put some rubber bumpers underneath, because it moves up and down when you hit bumps on the road and that makes an annoying noise in the roof when the sunroof is closed.

I asked my service guy and he said there was a service bulletin for it but that it had ended already. Trust me, I tried to get them to cover my replacement. Thanks for the heads up though with the noise. I'll be getting my sunroof fixed this week.

I went in for this seepage in Feb along with Water Pump replacement.
They said to keep an eye on the seepage. Well it's starting to leak again.
So they suggest I come in to replace the seal under warranty.

There is also a TSB for oil consumption that involve replacing some additional engine hardware...
That will require leaving the car for a few days with the dealer....

Well, I have had my car back for a month now since my engine was rebuilt. I did discover that my MMI showed the oil was low a few days after I left the dealer but they told me to bring it in if the low oil light went off. It hasn't yet and I'm up for my 45K service very soon. Hopefully everything will be good and I'll be able to turn my chip back on. I figured it would be good to run my car with it off for a bit.

They told me I wasn't able to get it for free. Also, they said the updated piece wouldn't fit. So, I'm still stuck with the solid piece.
Does a TSB expire? I assume that was why I didn't get it fixed for free.

That makes no sense. TSB's do not expire and there are a few of us with the updated deflector so it definitely fits earlier MY's. I think your dealer is awful.

Ok. I finally got the real reason why I couldn't receive the updated deflector. The told me it fit but when the sunroof closed it hit the deflector which caused it to open again. It seems my VIN was not part of the TSB. Additionally, my car was among the first B8's that were sold which may account for the number of issues I have experienced. I'm guessing I was just unlucky to have bought the car fresh after the redesign. My dealer though has been stellar throughout my ownership. They have allowed me to bring my car in for all the annoyances I have experienced and done their best to fix them. I would most certainly buy another car from them in the future.

I have an early '09 as well (delivered Nov'08) and the updated deflector fits and works just fine. Maybe there's some other ancillary part(s) they need to replace as well to make it work. Want me to check my service paperwork and list all parts that were replaced?

The 'talk' of all this oil consumption has me quite nervous. I have a 2011 A4 Prestige that is 2 months old and about 1500 miles on it. The 1998 BMW 540i this it replaced never burned a drop of oil. In fact I NEVER had to add a drop of oil between changes (which averaged around 8-12K miles.) How can it be within normal tolerances to add a quart (or liter) of oil every 1500 miles? I would love to be able to tell the person who makes up these rules that, "Yes, the heart bypass that was done to you is only good for 6 months - It is within my arbitrary tolerances for such a procedure. Feel free to come back in and we will do it again."

Don't let our "talk" make you nervous. It is a known fact that the 2.0T burns oil. Some of them just burn a bit more than others. It's the necessary evil that comes with owning a turbo engine. But it hasn't swayed me in the slightest. I love my car!

My 2010 A4 2.0 TFSI is burning a whole lot of oil, i've never seen anything like it. It is doing something like 1L PER 1.000 KM
It has a few mods to it, chipped engine and has sports four pipes exhaust, plus it is a lot heavier than most A4's, because it is bulletproof.
    Is this normal???
Please help me with this, I feel that I can't rely on the car for a long trip, because of the oil consumption.
    Thanks in advance

I would go to the dealer if your car is burning that much oil. Otherwise, I recommend you bring some extra oil and top off the engine when it tells you the car is 1L low. I think the fact your car is bulletproof has a lot to do with it. How much weight did it add to the car? The added weight is probably putting increased stress on the engine. Hope everything turns out well for you.

I am scheduled for service on 7/7 at Bell Audi.
They are running a pilot program to replace engine hardware and software update to address the Oil seepage and Oil consumption.
Some issue that is pressure related according to the SA.
Pushing the oil through the gaskets as well as causing it to burn more than normal.

He also mentioned that he is doing 2 of these a day now on 2009-2010 A4's.
So there are quite a few cars impacted.

These repairs will take the whole day so I'm getting a loaner.
Then it will be back to the tuner for ECU tune if it gets over-written.

Interesting - please keep us updated on this. I've got some seepage and some consumption - it's not outrageous, but more than I would like, and a lot more than my B5. I'd like to know what they replace, and what the TSB# is so I can discuss it with my SA .

SA mentioned that there was no specific TSB assigned. This is a pilot program that some dealerships are taking on to address these issues.
Since I have seepage and based on me burning a quart in 1200 miles or so, I qualify for getting all this remidiation performed.
SA also mentioned just replacing the seal (what another dealer was going to do) would only be a bandaid as the issue causing the excess pressure would still be there. So the seepage would persist after 10k miles on new seals.

Will post more details when it gets done. Recommend you call around to see what some dealers are saying by you guys.

Sorry it took a while. I finally got around to digging up the paperwork and it notes TSB 2019731, with the only part replaced listed as "deflector - 8D9-877-651-A". At the same time they also replaced the sunroof motor and "set adaption" (whatever that means) because I noted that sometimes my sunroof would pop back open while attempting to close. They referenced TSB 2020135 and installed "motor - 8K0-959-591-A". I doubt these issues are related, but figured it was worth mentioning just in case.

Car is still at the dealership.
They were spending a considerable amount of time today sending data to Audi HQ for analysis and get the "ok" to perform this fix.
Supposedly this will become an official TSB in a couple months.

Cam seal did not require replacing.
ECU will be overwritten with new code. So I will have to redo my vag changes and ECU tune.

Will have more details tomorrow on what hardware was replaced.

For now I'm missing my car as I'm driving around in a White on Tan B7.

    Fix was performed.
    -Replaced Crankcase pressure control valve
    -Replaced Front Crankshaft Seal
Peformed Part 1 of Oil Consumption test
    All under Warranty.

SA stated no repeat offenders on any that he has done.
Should be coming to a dealer near you in a TSB in a couple months after this pilot runs it's course.

    Vag settings were retained.
    ECU tune is gone.

Most concerning is that they said they noted blemishes on your car!

    I don't think it's possible to have a blem-free black car in NYC. :)

I'm sure. My wife's X3 will be our first and last black vehicle. It's impossible to keep clean!

It has been around 2 months and over 1000 miles since my engine was rebuilt and the car is running fantastically. I checked the MMI today and it hasn't budged from full. I'm cautiously optimistic the rebuild finally has my car running as Audi intended it to.

Where is this located? Any idea if it would be a relatively easy DIY? $134 in parts doesn't seem too bad to keep oil out of the intake system with the worry about carbon buildup if your dealer balks...

    Oil light on

Had to put a quart of oil in at 8,800 miles. This is shortly after my 5k first oil change. The Audi dealership charged me for the oil. I even have AudiCare, too.
