re: 20 inch wheels to be fitted to B7 RS4 - question on width offset etc..

Hey Guys i am considering purchasing a set of 20 inch wheels for my car - similar to HRE M40's

question i have is that they are either 8.5 wide or 10 inch wide - i am wanting to run the wider option as i think 8.5 is not wide enough and i refuse to put spacers on as insurance company wont like it ..

the offset is 35 ... can anyone confirm whether this is a pipe dream of fitting without modifying or whether the 10 inch rim will get under the guards front and rear... i am aware the rear wont be an issue its more the front i am concerned with.

Any help or advise would be great - but please no throwing stones for my choice in wanting to run 20's on my car.

    thanks

I am pretty sure a 10in wide wheel with a 35et will not work. The offset is too high and you might end up rubbing in the inner control arm. I test fit some 10in rims with et 30 and their was slight rubbing on the inside, albeit that was with a fat 285 tire. Even with a 275 on a 10in, most people are running a lower offset like 29et.
I am sure someone else with more knowledge will chime in and help you out.
    Good luck

BTW - which wheels are u considering?

You will need to roll your fenders to run 10 inches. However as the offset is what might get you. The stock rim is 9 inches wide with an et29 so if you run 10 and et35 you get 19mm LESS inner clearance and the outside position of the wheel EXTEND an extra 7mm. I do not know how you would clear the brakes that way and get away without rolling the fender.

20x10 et35 might fit, but you're up against quite a few obstacles...like 'retsujou' said I'd pay attention to the spoke profile, as you may be running low on brake clearance. Also, the rim will be very close to the steering knuckle (like 1-2mm at most) and depending on the lip design, there's a good chance it could rub there. As for tires, 285s are out of the question, a narrow 275/20 should fit...

You can afford the 7mm on the outside as I ran 10mm spacers on my stockers and I'm gonna say that your brake clearance is going to be a go also as I've got about 10mm of clearance between my calipers and my P40's.

The inside, now that's a different story and I think Koolade is right about the small amount of clearance on the backside.

well it may be a case of trial and error although an expensive one at that as im in australia .. and if they dont fit there aint many cars around that would be mounting up 4 x 10 inch wheels to there car.

if anything, you'll still have a couple options... 5mm spacers at most...grinder to the steering knuckle...machine the inner wheel lip... Based on that wheel design, you shouldn't have brake clearance issues. But you will need hubcentric rings (66.6 OD to 57.1 ID).

    I say go for it

10" is the easy part - the 20" diameter combuined with 10" width gets tricky. With a 20" x 10" et35 you will hit the aluminum suspension upright with the wheel. 19" x 10" et35 fits barely.

when you have teh wheels off you should paint over the old groove, that way we can tell if it's hitting it again

245/30 is what I would choose if it were me. This is kind of a matter of opinion though.

So the rs4 stock wheel is 19x9. So if I ran 20x9 on the rs4 their shouldn't be any figment problems correct or does the offset have to change? Also would 20x9.5 fit or would it be the same issue like the 20x10?

Haha 24 is too big and expensive. I'm just asking if 9.5 or 9 would fit
