A very very sad day for my B6 (pix)

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I had just sat through hours of rush hour traffic picking up my Macbook Pro from a repair place; getting my screen fixed. I was roughly five minutes from my house excited to have my computer back, to go in and play with it or whatever. I made the mistake of putting it on the passenger-side floor, but in my defense I didn't expect to get in a fucking accident.

Anyways the speed limit slowed from 45 to 35 and like a good law-abiding citizen I am, I slowed. Apparently the man driving an old chevy workvan decided in his mind that I MUST be turning since I was slowing up a bit, so he said. I kept going then all of sudden the jackass starts to turn in front of me; I slam on the brakes, its too late.
Next thing I know I was being jerked different directions at the same time, glass was flying everywhere, and apparently somehow I hit my head on the steering wheel, as I have a huge gash across my forehead. No airbags on my side of the car deployed, however the passenger ones did. Thanks, that really helped me didn't it.

I know you're supposed to stay calm after an accident, but I was far from calm. Before I even unbuckled the seatbelt I was screaming profanities at the driver of Van. I immediately grabbed my computer, took it out of the case, and it was fine THANK GOD, I had just spent $775 getting it repaired. I was still screaming at this point, used every curse word in the book probably. I struggled to climb out my drivers side window, still screaming. It pissed me off even more when the other driver told me I need to calm down.

Police came, report filed. Police cited this man for two different things, and told me I was at no fault, I had the right of way.

The very one sight I never wanted to see with this car:

Then of course this blocked off this entire road, which is usually quite busy. So I just had tons of people staring at me and the man. I was apparently shaking extremely badly because I had an officer come over and try and help me breathe normally, she had me sit down. I eventually got over the initial pissed off feeling of the accident, and I went and apologized to the other driver for every name and insult i threw his way. He understood and said i had no reason to apologize, it was his fault afterall.

I did not expect this to happen to me today, but it is never expected I guess.

I'm having no optimism about this; I'm sure it will be totaled out. I'm hoping that I get a decent amount back for it.

So thank you Astro-Man, I hope your rush to get your $500 van home was worth ruining my day, my car, and my head.

edit: they officially totaled it out for $8,600 on 7/27. They refuse to give anymore money for any modifications put on the car, however they also refuse to let me take anything off without deducting from their check.

    sean - that was funny.

OP - damn! You got it from all sides. That's a LOT of damage.

I always wondered how the side curtain airbags deploy - apparently they don't blow out of the A-pillar cover, so an A-pillar gauge wouldn't be dangerous. Interesting.

I'm sure they will, however I'm worried about how much I'm going to get back for an 02 Audi with over 100k miles.

sean: haha, i wish. however I dont want this to go that far, to go to court or anything. I just want a check, and hopefully another B6.

dang son, glad you're alright besides the hatchet wound on your forehead. Wonder if audi would be at fault for injuries due to failed deployment of your airbag? I would persue that. Atleast you didn't get assault charges. Now go rub one out on your sweet fixed laptop and drink some beers.

    hmmm...anyway...

    that thing is definitely totaled.

i can hardly drive any more...even if i just get in the car and drive for 5 minutes, i encounter so much stupidity and unsafe driving that it makes me absolutely sick.

vans and trucks especially; they drive like they're the only one on the roads, and like they're in sports cars...it's mind-numbingly ridiculous to be on the road with these assholes.

my favorite is when someone in a huge ass pick-up truck completely cuts me off without signaling, then when i honk and am forced to slam on my brakes, they are the ones who immediately flip me off.

you'll get a nice check from insurance and pick up a better audi.

i am disappointed with some of the airbag deployment situations i've seen from peoples' posts here...too frequently airbags (at least, the ones that should,) are not going off.

My Lexus's steering wheel airbag didn't deploy properly when i totaled that car, nothing ever came of it. I wouldn't hold my breath on this one.

LMFAO! But seriously, your head was bleeding, your car is totaled, could you ask for a better time? I'm pretty sure once your adrenaline wears off tonight and you wake up in the morning, you will be sore as all hell. Possibly even a neck injury your initial shock was disguising? /Thread

OP. Sorry to hear about that incident. Sounded scary and looks like your car went through the tumble cycle. Glad to hear you are okay. Go see a doctor and get checked out in. Esp having that mark on your head. Don't want to have any concussions or other internal head issues.

with the lack of side curtain airbag not going off.....isn't the sensor for that in the b-pillar. judging from the looks of it the car didnt get hit there on the drivers side while the other side b piller had more damage. I'm certainly not saying that it shouldn't of gone off and that audi should make their airbags more reliable overtime, but thats my .02

I'm sorry for the loss of your car take the advice on the b8 s4 though...possibly s5

I am glad you are OK, but your neck my hurt for a while, mine did for over a year after last accident. Talk to your lawyer, u might be able to get more money out of it.

Your anger is certainly understandable. If someone wrecked my car I'd be furious too.

Hopefully the other drive has insurance at all. Looking at the POS he was driving, who knows..

Hearing your story and seeing those pics made my stomach start turning like when my A4 got destroyed. I don't know why they call them accidents when it happens like this. We need a new term.

Very sorry to see this has happened to you OP, but equally glad you walked away safe.

And FWIW, if Astro Van Man already driving an Astro Van, it's likely karma has already caught up with him for other things. But that doesn't mean you aren't entitled to a nice fat payout. Hope one finds it's way to your bank account.

    Stay well.

Sorry bro. I'm still fucking dealing with issues from my wreck last September where my car should have been totaled. It ended up costing the insurance co over 14K to make everything right and my car isnt worth much more than that, stupid fucking cocksuckers. NEVER USE PROGRESSIVE INSURANCE IN LOUISIANA.

The damage on your driver side is similar to the damage I had but the impact was a little more forward on the body. I had the toed out wheel and all. I should have come here for advice when my wreck happened since it was my first.

It's sad to see a fellow Dolphin get in such a wreck... sorry for your situation, let's hope you are paid such that you can get back into another Audi.

I was leaving a parking lot in my old Mitsubishi and someone cut too close in front of me, and took my bumper off. She kept going like she didn't even notice.

Be careful what you say in this thread regarding sequestering a lawyer to gain revenue . . . remember everything you say here on this forum (and others) is admissible in court.

One slight tweak - everything you say here on this forum is probably discoverable, but it's not necessarily admissible at a trial.

I had a feeling that would happen. Is a CAT scan of your head in the plan?

Rest up. Get your body back to where it needs to be and then think about the car.

I am sorry for the loss, and glad to hear you are (relatively) OK. Best of luck with moving on.
I won't be taking this court unless the other driver for some reason decides he thinks I did something wrong in the situation. I just want my insurance check, a car, and this to all be behind me.

OP - damn! You got it from all sides. That's a LOT of damage.

I always wondered how the side curtain airbags deploy - apparently they don't blow out of the A-pillar cover, so an A-pillar gauge wouldn't be dangerous. Interesting.
A pillar guage wouldn't really cause any harm in an accident, as it doesnt really weigh anything but that sharp metal plate he has stuck up on the dash on the pass side could of became a flying razor blade. Good thing you walked away and I'd start looking for that new car. Why is it that our audis are supposed to be very safe vehicles, which I'm not disputing that they arent', but in an accident they look like a tin can ripped to shreds?

some one correct me if i'm wrong here, but audis and most other modern cars are supposed to crumple like that. that way, all the energy from impact is absorbed by those "crumple zones". if you make all the material (frame, panels, etc.) so strong that it resists crumpling, it will end up causing damage to the driver because the energy of the crash just carries all the way to the interior rather than being absorbed by the frame, crumple zones, etc... better your audi gets trashed than you getting trashed.
