    Chasta: The Rebuild

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Ok back in december I was that lucky Audi owner who had a blown engine .....

Around late April I was finally able to get that damn engine out and I found some stuff

Needless to say my block was permanently modified

So I got a newish one and a bunch of parts

Unfortunately, the guy I bought the block off of did not send the oil pan. I'm waiting on that and a brand newish turbo. Check out how she sits right now

Just so everyone knows how much crap I have in the car right now, I have non-sport OEM suspension in the rear and sport in the front

Are you doing a stock rebuild? What specs/work is being done? How'd you even manage to bend/snap your rod like that?

For now, I'm just putting it back to stock. I had the head refurbed because I bent a valve when cylinder one exploded. After I get it running I can't decide if I want to keep it or go for an avant. If it stays I'll definitely put something else, big turbo and such.

I don't even know! I've never seen a stock engine mangle a piston and rod that much before.

Correct I almost have enough parts in the trunk and back seat to build two 1.8t. 2 blocks, 2 complete timing belt kits (one old one new), all my wires and piping and junk, most of the front end, new gutted cat, two complete clutch kits with respective flywheels, the head, manifolds, and in the next couple days I will have 3 turbos in there
Of course the old block is junk I just haven't gotten rid of it yet. I would keep the parts in my dorm but my school doesn't allow it

I went to a friends house for the weekend and I finally painted a couple things:

This piece goes to the snub mount but I can't remember how the mount goes together. I ripped it apart 5+ months ago in a furry.

And just like everyone else on here I decided the valve cover needed to be painted all pretty

Does anyone have a pic of how the whole snub mount goes together?

Ok, little update. My dad bought me a k03, and at first I was like !

Then when I tried to mount it up on my manifold I realized that the exhaust housing is for an s4 . So I figured eh, I still have the original k03 and the correct housing, I'll just swap them out.

But oh wait! Of course along with everything else on my car the housing is cracked so bad it was rubbing on the wheel. So at this point I was . Luckily I found one for real cheap and it will be here within the week.

The part I really needed was a new oil pan which also arrived this week, and it was supposed to have a windage tray and an oil pan gasket. Of course all I got was a part of an oil pick up that doesn't even work with my car.

So I ordered a new gasket and found a windage tray on ebay for real cheap, and those will be here within a week too.

So all I have to do this week is sit on my ass waiting for parts and sort through my steadily decreasing assortment of bolts, screws, and nuts.

    Engine Build Day One

    This is me -Doing Werk!

    Finished up for the day

So, what I have done, got the oil pump and pickup, windage tray, oil pan, and clutch and flywheel bolted up. Again, most have seen or have done this before, but this is my first complete engine build. Also, the count for how long my car has been broke down is 7 months and 4 days

And yes, I do have a k03 exhaust housing holding up my engine

haha I appreciate that, I've looked over your build thread countless times trying to figure out where everything goes. Maybe we should have a Ghetto-est Engine Build at College Challenge.

And don't worry, you'll still be the most heavily built ko3 on Audizine

Did you figure out what caused the damage? If not, you may have to do another rebuild soon after you start it up.

Does anybody have a picture or can take a picture of the a/c compressor connector? I'm completely lost as to where I plug it in. Also, if you can, I need a picture of the starter connections.

    Another update.

So I have been diligently working on the engine, getting everything all together, and my goal was to get it running last wednesday. But of course nothing goes as planned, sooo BAM! I'm torquing the camshaft gear bolt and it snaps in half, half the bolt is still in the camshaft. After that I lost it. I basically let the car sit for a couple days while I tried not to take a bat to the car. This weekend I decided that the absolute worst that I'd have to do is replace the exhaust cam, so I could put everything less the timing belt on.

Snub mount, that bar is painted blue because the original coating had pealed off and I didn't want it to rust

Previous owner somehow broke the washer fluid tank, so I patched that up

So now all I have left is the turbo, belts, camshaft problem, fluids, and start her up for the first time since mid december

Down time count: 8 months 3 days

While waiting for parts I had to find stuff to fix, and I got a little bored.

Found my coolant flange was broken so I bought a new one from ECS Tuning. It was 6 bucks!!

    All done

Loved the pic that Kyle took when he got his most heavily built k03 build done, so I copyed a little

My buddy has been bugging me that we have to take the german cars cruising, and so we did Chasta and Nicole

I'm having starter problems, need a new one

How'd you fix your cam problem? And that dipstick appears to be incorrect. Does the read the correct level? I mean, is the metal part the correct length to get the right oil pan depth? What's wrong with the starter?

I was able to drill a small hole into the bolt and use an ez-out. Dipstick is incorrect, an I don't know which dipstick to order from ecs. And the starter, hell I don't know. Maybe I hooked it up wrong? Not sure how I could seeing as there is only one post.

Flange was a life saver, I'm so glad ecs exists or I would have be s.o.l. However, I am having trouble with finding the correct dipstick, last time I bought one it was the wrong one, as you can see from the pics. My car specs are in the my garage.

Flange was a life saver, I'm so glad ecs exists or I would have be s.o.l. However, I am having trouble with finding the correct dipstick, last time I bought one it was the wrong one, as you can see from the pics. My car specs are in the my garage.
They are VIN specific, drop me a PM with your VIN and I'll sort you out!

I haven't done an update in foreevvaahh.

Found out my starter problem was because one of the ground connections was rusty. Sanded it down and put it back on, now she starts everytime. Also moved back to Chicago from Wyoming.

Then I found out that the PO was in an accident so the bumper side clips on the driver side were bent in. Spacers are not only for wheels -

    Indy fogs FTW!

Also fixed my front bumper apperance wise

Don't you want a fan that is a bit larger? Parts cars are always awesome, though. Very nice.

On a slightly weird and not-at-all-related note: Is this red flashlight yours? Do you know (or could you find out) the manufacturer for me? TIA
