Conversion of rear light behaviour: US--> EU ... on an Audi A5

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I am from Europe, I bought a US Audi S5. In europe we need the orange turn indicators - not the red ones as US models have. As far as I found out, the 09 control unit 8K0 907 063 D was used in US and EU models. So I guess it must be a coding issue. VAG-Com doesn't have a documented bit which gives this information I am looking for.

    I need:
    - Stable rear light (flash light or not - always same brightness)
    - turn indicators: above normal light (US setting have here a 2nd backup light) I'd put an orange bulb in there

Anyone out there who have an idea what to try?
Unfortunately I don't have an A5 near in order to copy the settings.

    regards
    Andy

    same problem

I brought my A5 from the US and I have the same problem, I have solved it temporarily but not satisfactory. Audi in Austria might be able to help you, I have tried with Audi Sweden and they cannot solve this. Audi Germany refuses to help, what I believe is that you need new control unit ordered with the specification that you give them because you cannot just order it. It must be ordered according to your vin number and then it will be american style. According to Audi Sweden it is not possible to manually specify. But if you manage to solve it correctly, I would appreciate if you informed me how you solved it.

Do you need this to be allowed to drive the car?

Hello, I have some ideas how to solve it, but I didn't make the final step. The Control unit in the right rear in the car is US. I will install a European one (868MHz), new keys, and then try to program it. I know guys working at Audi. Let's see if they can solve it finally. I keep you informed. you can send me a mail for further conversation ([email protected])

    Hello guys!

Does anyone fixed this situation? Can Vagcom help or solve it? Maybe in module 9, changing the region from USA (I think is value 3) to rest of the world (value 1?).
Will this change which rear bulbs are flashing when using turn indicators?

    What did you finally do?

thanks!! Im in the middle of that right now... with a US AUDI A5, and in spain.

Thanks For the reply! I invested some time searching, quite deep but I did not find any coding that is able to change the behaviour for the back lights. Again, my problem is that now the turning flash lights in the back are red, because the US model uses the position lights with more intensity when turn indicator is on. But in europe we need orange color and the bulb that flashes is one in the white plastic part in the top... that now is on in the US model when back gear is on.

Today the Audi dealer here in spain told me that they received information from enginners and that is not possible to code this, even changing the parts. I cannot believe that... what should I do?? I need to change this to be able to circulate legally in europe...

Does anyone suffered this problem? HELP PLEASE!

    Hi guys,

I am currently in the same situation. I am living in the US and have a 2010 A4. I will be moving back to Spain in July and would also need to modify the taillights... I would ideally like to do it here (Boston area) before going to Europe, but I'm open to any solution... Even if that means not having the LED taillights and going to the base model...

I have contacted the dealer where I bought it, but they are unwilling to help... They say that they are legally not allowed to do it here in US soil, and that I would need to do it back in Europe... which seems a difficult endeavor as Waykiki is saying.

    Any idea? Thanks!!

Hi, same situation here, in the US and planning to take a B8 A4 to Spain this summer.

Question for those of you already in Europe, are you able to drive the car while you try to fix it? what happened if no solution is available: you can't register the car?
    tx guys,

I have no experience with this, but from all what I've read so far you would need a VAS tool not VAG-COM. Also, your best bet may be to check with kufatec.de

    Good Luck!

    Hello,
Has anyone managed to succesfully convert their tail lights from US to EU ?
I am working my way through this for my A4 Cab (2007) and here is what I see so far
The tail light module for US and EU are slightly different (US has 2 tail lights and on EU model the second one for same wire goes to the signal light), PIN 2 is empty for US whereas it's PIN 3 for EU.
When going to the CE module with VAG COM and changing the country code from US to EU it doesn't change the behavior as expected.
There seems to be additional coding required. Any ideas where one can find more details about the codes for the CE module ?

    Thanks !

J and H are interchangeable, but you need to code them for them to work properly. Only real difference is the wiring, and that H will have amber turn signals.

Thanks NuVega, I have found here in audizine several pages with the A5 Coupe RoW Adaptation for new LEDs as:
    http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...=1#post9590889

Question now is if this is the same setup for the J lights (NA) than for the H (amber RoW lights)?
    regards

Here is my car w/ the refresh LED tail lights I just added about a week or so ago. The harness I was sent was European spec:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vsJw...ature=youtu.be

When I plugged in the Kufatec dongle, they worked but the reverse lights would blink with the turn signals. So I got the security code, went in and modified that, while in there I modified the lights too so that they would behave in part US, part RoW...as you see in the video, there are three LEDs tied into the brake light for the US spec lights, reason why you can't code them to work properly as RoW, so when I used the turn signals the very top part, like RoW, would blink except for those three LEDs, it just looked ghetto...so I modified the adaptation to where only the brake light lights up, not turn signal, and when I use the turn signal it would use the brake lights too, so no left out LEDs. The three LEDs that light up with the brake lights still looks weird, but I figure as long as it looks the same on both sides it'll be somewhat ok.

And to answer you question, I think you can make the RoW lights perform in the same manner as US, but not the other way around.

Hi, I had exactly your scenario, upgraded the rear FaceLift lights with USA taillight versions ;)
I have done all the lights work but the fogs, there is not way to make them work, are your fog lights working?
Also very interesting what you did, i saw your youtube and appreciate your adaptation numbers to see if i can do the same, I mean I like to get your behavior:
When use the brakes just the brake light lights up (not turn signal), and when use the turn signal also the brake lights are on (so no left out LEDs).
I have been looking the channel adaption numbers for a USA Facelift tails for a while, and you have them
    Thank you,
