Steering Wheel Vibration - would winter tires in summer cause this?

I haven't removed my winter tires yet (waiting on rolling the fenders). I've been having a vibration in the steering wheel when I go above ~45mph
and when I brought it to NTB this weekend to have the wheels checked for balancing issues they said the vibration was due to me having
winter tires on in summer and because the nature of the tire. I was just curious if this makes sense? I assume I would have cupped my tires
a little bit but the problem is amplified when I brake.

    um. YES

winter's arent supposed to be driven on if its more than 50* ambient temps. anything over avg. driving speed could potentially cause them the fall apart while your driving. aka a blow out.

srsly though, its WAY to hot here right now to be driving on those, your just tearing them up and killing the life of them right now. they get worse once you start to brake bc you have all your weight sit up front, and at these temps the sidewalls and rubber is like jello. winter's are designed to act like a summer tire but @ 0-30* instead of 70-90*

What winters do you have and how much tread left?

If they are studless, you should not be experiencing vibration, unless they are getting warn unevenly (which sounds like could be the case, as if you are rolling the fenders you are probably pretty low). And in warm temps those tires are going to wear FAST.

But NTB saying they are winters and it is the nature of the beast, is pretty much BS. I have blizzaks that I could throw on right now and drive up to 120 and it would be smooth. Now studless winter tires can be a PAIN to balance correctly. Are they using a Road Force balancer?

you are talking about some blizzaks that havent been driven from nevember of last year until today though have you?

i bet those are pretty fucked up wearing wise.

I have the Dunlop WinterSport 3D tires. I've only used them them the past 2 winters so there should be plenty of tread left. I asked the guy at the
shop about cupping and he indicated that they probably have started to cup and that's where the vibration would stem from. I'm just wondering
how much I would have damaged them.

I'll be switching to my summer wheels/tires as soon as I get my fender roller and will let you guys know what the update is. I'm not sure
what balance machine NTB uses ( I don't use them much) but the tech said the wheels are balanced and that he is 100% sure it's from the
winter tires but I guess I'm a bit skeptical as well.
