RS5 MMI Console (with Joystick) with the Alu buttons to be installed in S4

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have a S4 with the full blown MMI Navigation plus from factory + Keyless entry

My original S4 MMI console with joystick is as follows:
8T0 919 609 G - Operating Unit for MMI with Joystick [PR-4F2, 4I3] the PR codes mean "4F2 = Central locking system "Keyless Entry"" and "4I3 = Central locking system "Keyless Entry" without deadlock" respectively

I would like to install the new RS5 MMI console as it has the nice Aluminium effect buttons.

In the RS5 ETKA catalog there are two entries with PR-4F2, 4I3:

    They are:

    8T0 919 609 M - MMI Control with joystick for PR-4F2,4I3
    8T0 919 609 K - MMI Control with joystick for PR-4F2,4I3

Question is what is the difference between "M" and "K" suffix versions?
ETKA does not tell me anything else.

You can safely ignore the RS5 part 8T0 919 609 N because it is for Radio "LOW II" (does not apply my car)
You can safely ignore the RS5 part 8T0 919 609 Q beacuse it is for Radio "HIGH" Japan (does not apply my car)

Has anyone installed the RS5 MMI control with joystick into the S4 yet??? Love those alu effect buttons!!!

Is there any difference between the "M" and "K" vesions as the PR codes are exactly the same as the original S4 MMI console.

beautiful huh!.......and the MMI control console cost a small fortune so one does not wish to buy the wrong part.
any guidance would be much obliged.

    Thanks a million.

Agreed, I want this for mine eventually, since my past experience with the black coated plastic buttons is that they will eventually wear off the black - not to mention the aluminum looks amazing!

Hey Chris, got your message so I took a look for you.

That unit is worth $566 vs your current model which is $688. I know... It was the same with the electric folding mirrors, they are cheaper than non folding.

Even if the NAV unit has changed (although to my knowledge it's the same) don't worry about it. The buttons are all the same so you can just unscrew the bottom and swap out the board from your old unit. Although I don't think you'll need to.

The only item you have to consider is what are you going to do about the hole where the electric rear spoiler button goes?? Perhaps convert it to a trunk release? The button is most likely not going to come with the console either. The only buttons that come with the console will be the MMI buttons.
    LHD Spoiler Switch 8K1 927 521 $32.00

It's a nice piece but I don't think I would be concerned about it fitting as much as the Investment.

If anyone does decide to buy this and wants custom LED colours let me know.

Nav unit is the same on 2011, its just the updated SW sitting in the harddrive in the MMI control unit. BTW Audi use a custom software made by QNX for MMI.
QNX is famous for making RTOS (realtime opearting systems) applications that are robust, quick start up, high reliability etc.
it is strongly encrypted also, even if you remove the HDD and try to clone it, next to impossible.
The HDD is a Hitachi Endurastar automotive grade HDD

    Hi David
The spoiler extension button is not an issue as the cut out can be filled up completely by a coin holder for S4/A4. on the RS5 the coin holder slot is a little shorter to accommodate the spoiler extension button. putting in the regular S4/A4 coin holder fills the entire space up so no issue with that

we are RHD cars here in this region so actually in the picture above my park brake and coin slot are reversed for RHD application.

    thanks for the reply but......
unfortunately the german forum is wrong
the item is ETKA is listed as number 13 (MMI console) and includes the items 16,17,18 complete. the start button is (item 21) is a separate for all MMI consoles across the A4/A5/S4/RS5 etc.
8T0 919 609 N is for it is for Radio "LOW II" PR code cars
unless my ETKA is wrong....but that's unlikely cos it an updatable version that is licensed.

BTW...just relalized a typo in the title, it should be RS5 and not RS4!!!!....now fixed

The thing with the shifter is the logo though. Would you want the RS5 badge?

In regards to some of the other comments:

    1) QNX uses a custom OS but code is a combination of C/C+ and builds it's applications with a number or technologies including Java and HTML content.
QNX is also currently under acquisition of another very large very prominent company. I haven't done any research on this and was given this information by a person who works for one of the companies so I am not going to say who or what just in case it's not public.

    2) As far as cloning goes, been done already and not impossible. The only catch is it is set in it's programing (allocation table) to be a specific drive size so upgrading to a larger disk just leaves you with unallocated space.

    3) Hitachi is just one of a few drive suppliers. There is no guarantee that anyone's unit is using that specific drive. I myself have a Toshiba.

    4) There is no coin holder listed for the RS5 that I can find so I am guessing it is built into the switch. Now unless you've ordered the part I'm not sure how you can claim you can just swap the part from the S4. It's not an expensive switch but I certainly wouldn't make claim unless you've had the parts in hand.

    5) RVA is correct in his Post and My ETKA is also up to date and here is the break down down:

Radio High - All models regardless of Japan or ROW
    8T0 919 616 K For Start Button equipped cars
    8T0 919 616 N Without Start Button

    Radio Low
    8T0 919 616 M For Start Button equipped cars
    8T0 919 616 Q Without Start Button

    Its that simple.

Now for those that want the shifter:
    LHD 8K1 713 139 F NOR
    RHD 8K2 713 139 F NOR
Your looking at about $240 US for this part.

I'm not interested on going back and forth over this. I try not to speculate and provide the information as best I can but I think I have a pretty good background on nailing these things down.

Well I hope you post some pics and report back on the whole coin slot thing. Your probably right about it fitting but at least everyone will know if they need to order the switch if it doesn't.

On the plus side and this should go for everyone, you'll probably be able to sell your console for a few hundred lessening the ouch factor.

Will definitely do, next thing am gonna look up is the ELSAwin workshop manual to see if this panel when unplugged needs a GECKO online link or similar VAS 5051/5052 procedure......that means a trip to the dealer which im really trying to avoid.

LOL, definitely guys, no offense but I think Stronic shift knob in B8 A4/S4 looks uuuuuuuuugly... Lucky I got a manual. This is probably the only factor that makes me feel good about manual.

But after all, guys, what is that button with letter "A" on it right next to parking break lever? Excuse me for this question if it is obvious to all the others.

Auto brake. In theory what it does is engage the brake once you get to a stop even if you let go of the brake pedal. It will disengage once you hit the gas. Sounds great until you actually try to use it, especially in traffic....

Yea I can imagine, if it works similarly as the e-brake auto release. Whenever I pull up the e-brake and signals turn green, I can't start driving as quickly as 70-year-old to my right lol

Reading your first sentence, for a moment, I was going to ask about retro, but as soon as I read your last sentence, my imagination took over, hah.

That's the exact knob I wanted to find. It requires the shifter core to be modified so that it can adopt to the switch at the 12:00 position as oppose to ours at either 3:00 (RHD) or 9:00 (LHD).

It only require to soften the plastic core of the shifter column with a heat gun or a lighter and twist the hook to 12:00 position. Also, the original shift boot need to be used instead of the A3's. My friend has done this on his TT with a TTS knob. Just need to order the knob and I will let you know how it goes.

I've had my MMI controls out of the car more times than I can count. Sometimes for a few days at a time. No issues. No dealer visit.

Couldn't resist so I rushed up to my friend's shop and installed the S-tronic knob. Installation took approx. 1.5 hrs. Sorry about the 3GS pics.

The white plastic rod with a hole on top in the shifter column is the piece that need to be twisted 90 degrees with either a heat gun or lighter to work with the A3 S-tronic knob with the button located at the 12 o'clock position. (didn't take pic after twisted as I didn't wanna interrupt my friend) It is then mated to my original shift boot.

    Installed...
