Haven't made this work yet :( Must use the toggle switch that came with the interface. Waiting for help from xcarlink.

I think someone said in another thread that there was a second CAN cable that needed to be plugged in and you would then be able to switch modes by holding down the button for 2 full seconds.

I've seen this option to be enabled in Vagcom but I don't understand why we wouldn't need to connect the AUX input for audio? How else would audio work?

theres a video input and audio input cable, but im going to try that when i get home

Well theres UPS, Fedex, Royal Post and DHL. Those should give you a few places to try. Google also recognizes certain tracking numbers like fedex and UPS if you put it in and search.

Also a head's up on my plans. I've ordered a Western Digital Media player in which a 320gb will go along side that to store all the video. Any ideas on how to secure it in the glove box so it doesn't move?

I've also purchased the Apple Composite AV cable that plays video/audio AND charges at the same time. I'll be taking pictures of my install for anyone who might want some help and give them ideas.

BTW this is the cable I bought (on ebay) and I've been able to install a hack on my iPhone (tvout2 in Cydia) in which it displays everything at all times (springboard and basically every app), it works for everything I need it to do.

Xcarlink confirmed that you don't need to connect the AUX port.

Yes that's right as the interface takes the aux connection from the harness connected to the back of your head unit, there is no need to connect anything to your Aux port.

i just did it, it was right in front of me the whole time, but the 3.5 mm adapter has to be plug in in order for the radio to know where the sound its comming from.
if you guys figure out a way to make work without he that adapter in let me know and i'll put up on ebay.

What do you mean by that?
I didn't need the 3.5mm adapter to be plugged in. I have completly removed the AUX cable and the sound still works. Just have to switch to AUX mode on the radio.

I don't have the full MMI.

You have to Vagcom and enable AUX input. Once I get my installation done, I'll take a screenshot on where to enable it.

Depends on what you're source is. I'm sure there are multiple solutions including a car PC w/a mobile broadband card, or NJ's iPhone jailbreak solution.

My understanding is that we have the "V2" of the XCarLink which does NOT require the Aux cable. All we'll need to do is enable Aux via VCDS.

I'm not sure what extra unit you're referring to. As for the XCarlink controlling the audio, this of it this way- If you had a A/V receiver and plugged your TV into it, you would still see the video on the TV while the receiver would control the audio. As for the car, the display still displays, but the XCarlink (receiver) controls the audio. Not the best analogy, but it makes sense in my head, lol.

I trid very hard to understand that but I had to give up.

I just connected an xcarling video interface (new version) but I'm not getting any sound, I don't know how to switch sound between the radio and DVD player which is connected to the audio in on the interface

Ok I got it: Radio > long coding helper > enable aux in.

BTW is this GB still going?, I think I'm gonna switch my version 1 xcarlink for the version 2, only to have a cleanest audio input, on the other hand I'm gonna be installing a digital TV tuner.

I purchased a half DIN DVD player but it has some glitches with home made DVDs, I'm still looking for a solution for Internet browing

no i have v2, i get audio without pluging the ipod to the 3.5mm jack but the 3.5mm adapter has to be in the ami box in order for my radio to get the audio source.
