xcarlink has an audio out that you need to connect to Aux-In/AMI... if you have ami you need to get a 3.5mm headphone jack connector...
then in MMI, you select Aux-In as you input source...

I am tempted. When do you need an answer by? I know all are very anxious to order but I need to do some more research to see if I can install this on my own. I also would like a GPS so need to know how to add that on while I do this install. Anyway, no big deal if you can't wait.

I've already put in an email to my dealership regarding the appropriate part # for the 3.5mm AMI cable. There are two floating around out there. It's either a case of A) 1 is for the Navi and 1 for non-Navi OR B) one has since replaced the other for whatever reason. eBay has one of them for $17.99 plus like $5 shipping. The other will cost around $45-$50 through Genuine or a dealership.

That is correct- you need to BYOGPS, lol. I'm not sure about a specific solution for that, but I know they exist. I, myself, just plan on getting a hand-help unit (I'm eying the Garmin nuvi 1490T) and mounting it in the cabin somewhere. The lack of touchscreen makes it difficult to integrate into the XCarLink itself. But then again, I'd rather have the option of being able to take the unit with me, whether into another car or what have you.

NPuter nailed it on the head! BTW, was looking into that Western Digital unit on newegg- think I might pull the trigger on that, too. ONLY problem I have with it is that it doesn't currently have support for .mkv files and that's like 1/2 of what I have =0(

The one on ebay (I believe the seller is from Florida), I bought a couple months back and had to return it since it wasn't detected at all by the MMI.

Crap! That coulda been a SWEET deal! My guess is that's the one for MMI (Navi). For the record, the one on eBay's part # is 4F0 051 510 C

I believe you're 100% right- just like there is for the iPod cable. The thing is there is NO discrepancy between the two part #s (4F0 051 510 C and 4F0 051 510 F) on ANY of the Genuine parts sites or the official Audi Parts site. This is why I emailed my dealership for some HOPEFUL clarification. I can assure you that someone on another forum (I believe it's MYFASTA4) confirmed that 4F0 051 510 F works for non-MMI (non-Navi). Looks like we're ponying up another $50 for an audio solution, unless we can live with closed cations

I am sorry to say this but I am OUT. I really like this unit but I like the other touch screen nav and dvd system better. It's way more expensive but I think I like the touch screen and the ability to access things from the screen versus having an iphone or a nav unit. Anyway, thanks for waiting. I appreciate it. I will most likely order the unit in a couple of months as it's not an easy (cheap) buy like this one.

The USB stick contains software to update your MMI to be compatible but I didn't need it. I would assume it would be for earlier versions, perhaps those who have MMI in their B7's?

theres a spot in the left side of the glove box, but the glove box has to come out completely, theres room in the back of glove box, i have mine in the glove box inside an electronic project box, and i made holes for the a/v inputs.

its not that hard, theres a couple of other screws that this diagram doesnt show but they are inside the glove box, and theres a couple under it.

anyway, once i get this up and running i'll be installing the HKS Camp2, which reads directly from OBD to able to display digital/ analog boost/ speed/ rpm/ water temp, and if i buy the necessary sensors, oil and water pressure too!
this will be my next project :) didnt wanna deal with any external gauges.

damn@! i guess i WOULD've been able to gett that group buy price. oh well. i ended up paying about $15 more than you guys.

so for those who are installing this, are you guys going the full hog and loading GPS, reverse cam, DVD, digital TV? for me i'm just gonna connect my iPhone via component cables for the GPS navi and then HKS camp2 for the gauges. not sure about reverse cam yet due to installation issues.
