Cool Almost ready to Go mod Crazy - Some Updates and Goings On - Long

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I think I may actually need to take some time off work to get caught up with the car. I had some more parts show up for the car over the last few days and I'm just about ready to start some serious work. Just in case all of the ideas have been lost over time here's whats coming up:

    Front Parking senor install:
I now have everything for the front install,
    harness
    module
    sensors
sensor mounts (thanks to our German friend who seen the thread and emailed the solution)
    Sensor mount - mounting tape
    buzzer
    buzzer mount screws
    Button

    Audi 110V power inverter:
    Inverter
    New Cup Holder
    Mounting Screws
Replacement center console insert (replaces 12v plug in back of console)
    Wire harness Plug

    Powered back window shade:

    Motor with shade
    Rear deck cover
    Switch
    Trim Parts
(Just need 6 screws and a plug)

    Illuminated door pockets
4 Audi LED under dash lights
    Plugs and wires

    Rear door lock switch upgrade:

Replacement switches with Lock and Unlock
No wiring needed for NA cars

    ADS Switch install:
    Plug
    Switches
    Wiring

    Alarm Upgrade:
    Door Alarm Control Switch
    Interior Sensor
    Plugs and Wiring

    Rear Heated Seats:
    Heating Pads
    Harness
    Center Console Switches

    Rear Ski Bag Pass through:
    Left side top seat cover
    New Armrest mount
    Mounting Kit
New coded Lock for pass through
    Ski Bag
    New Covered trim cushion
    Seat Backing

    Passenger Fire Extinguisher:
Tons of Parts but have them all

    Black Optics Grill:
Have everything was just waiting for parking sensor upgrade to do it all at once

Headlight, Taillight Tinting and clear protections:
    Lamin-X Smokked Taillight covers
    Lamin-X Front clear covers
Audi - Rear Trunk Ledge Clear Bra
No Name - Door sill edge - clear bra protectors

    AWE Turbo Gauge:
    Custom Harness made
    Just need to Install

    Sway Bars:
H&R Front and Rear Sway Bars
Had them for months just need to be installed

    H&R Spacers
Thanks to Miracle a deal's been had for some 15mm f/r spacers for the wheels

Headliner Conversion from Grey to Black:
To many parts to list but have them all.

    Incomplete Projects:

    Adaptive Cruise Control:
    Plugs and wires
    Adaptive Radar Sensor
    Mount and Screws
    Steering Stalk
    Fog lamp grill
Missing - Adaptive Gauges (never seem to be listed on eBay even though the other parts are)

    Lane Guard
    Lane Guard Camera
    Plug and Wires
    Trim Covers
Missing - Windshield mount (Can't be ordered from Audi entire windshield only and no one on eBay is listing the mount)

    Headlight Assist:

    Wiring
Incorrect Mirror - I have a mirror but it's for the non 3 Zone climate control so I need another..

    TV Tuner:
    Wiring and antenna modules
Missing - Tuner (waiting patiently for eBay gods to bless me with a deal)

    Audi Hill Hold Assist:
    Wiring and Switch
Missing - Compatible ABS unit - These aren't showing up on eBay for some reason.

    Future R&D - Funding Dependent
I've done some research on the outside door handle illumination. It appears the new A8 in Europe has gone to same style handle as the A4. Some of the door handle parts share the same part numbers. It's a stretch but I think there may be a 50-50 chance that the door handle with lighting may fit our cars. Problem is it will cost about $125-150 to find out. Just don't have the funding to throw away to find out right now.

    Possible TT Center console Net
Still haven't been able to get measurements but this may be a possible mod for our cars.

    Website Goings On..

ItsDubC has been working hard on developing a new online Long Coding Calculator for the site. This will allow people to learn how the long coding works in VCDS and actually allow you to create coding for your car from the comfort of your living room. Premise will be that it will have all the check boxes in place so you can paste in your current coding, make the changes to what ever bits and bytes you need to and copy the completed coding which can be pasted into VCDS.

There are a few write ups sitting on the brink of completion but require a bit of car time to wrap up like the ADS install and coding DIY.

New Video Camera on the way. Thanks to the Mail Order gods smiling upon me (long story) money got freed up to go towards a nice new Sony camcorder which will allow some video footage to be added to DIY's for a little better clarification on some procedures.

So although nothing really interesting in the post just some updates on whats going on.

Are you talking about the switch that goes into the non navi location under the shifter (8k0 959 673 E) or the one up on the console (8k1 959 673 E)?

I guess you really dont neeed an ESP off button - unless you need it for rocking the car...In Texas the ESP off button is useless!

I don't quite understand what you are saying...

David will be installing the one that goes on the dash because he has nav/MMI

for us w/o nav, the switch goes below the gear selector, below the ESP off button - basically where the MMI controls will be - you don't loose the esp off button...

Ahh OK. I thought that the ADS buttons on non Nav systems "replace" the ESP off button cluster below the shifter. I though it uses the same mounting hole and clips so no new Trim piece is needed. Just pop the center console and you then maket the switch. You're saying that theres a second hole is needed and you a) either cut the trim hole out or b) get a new trim piece with that cut-out...

Say Dave is putting that switch over the klimatronic headunit.

On a tangent, this would prolly be a good time for a center console trim swap too since your down there anyways if you havent swapped out that fake Aluminum cross hatched junk...

    Here is where ours goes:

Here is where David's goes: (Picture shows car with 2G mmi - David has 3G, but the switch still goes in the same location)

Awesome find NP!! I looked in ETKA too fast (09-941) for the switches. Just now noticed its 2 spots. Thanks for the quick pic!

So for non MMI its a trim piece and the button cluster and whatever wiring! Crossing fingers that this one gets figured out now.

Unfortunately my ver ETKA (7.1) only shows 3 rev of console inserts (863-50) for non-Navi. 8k0 864 261 A, B or C. I can not tell which one of those, if any, has the additional slot for the second row ADS buttons.

Sorry for the threadjack, David. Maybe we should start a new post about the ADS hardware. The ADS coding thread is a complete mess also, anyone care to fix and maybe combine??

correct - a couple people here have already done it (on non-nav)
I saw an ebay listing for the trim piece w/ the button for 100euro - I was about to buy it, but then I figured I'd wait.. (want to do trip computer first...)

I copied this from part of my write up:

    Switches MMI High

The switches you need will be based on what other options you have or will be installing in your car. The default location for the ESP switch is on the left but gets moved to the right when you install the ADS switches. You can not reuse your ESP switch as they are shaped differently for left and right.

    ADS switch:
    8K1 959 673 E V10

Then you need to choose your new ESP Switch

    ESP Only Switch:
    8K2 959 674

    ESP and Parking:
    8K2 959 674 A

    ESP and Blind:
    8K2 959 674 B

    ESP, Parking and Blind:
    8K2 959 674 C

    Switches MMI Low (Symphony/Concert)

From What I can tell you only need to order the ADS switch and not both like the MMI High unit.

    ADS switch:
    8K0 959 673 E V10

    Wiring for Switches

    3 Pin plug 1C0 973 119 B
    2 x wires for 3 pin plug 000 979 009 E

I'm not really sure on the centre console part number. There are 2 for ADS. The only difference I see is the Keyless entry but I'm thinking it may have to do with the start button for cars with advanced Key.

    The two part numbers are:
    8K0 864 261 B
    8K0 864 261 C

If some one out there has ADS and non MMI and wants to give me their VIN I can tell you which part is what.

Obviously this would be cheaper on ebay etc. but what is the approx. cost of buying these parts (buttons, plug/wires) from a dealer? Is the plug already in the car and it's just a matter of installing the buttons and plugging into existing connections? My coding is already functional via the MMI, I would just like to get rid of the "lack of button" error while scanning.
My other home is an AIRSTREAM.

Well the plug for ESP is there but you would have to add the one for ADS. If you can get everything from Genuine your looking at about $150 shipped give or take.

Where the part numbers a give away?

The only thing is mine is a bit more complicated because I am adding the rear shade and the front parking system. I'd hate to think there is a button out there I don't have hehe.

    Nope... 8K0 864 261 A is for non ADS.

The only difference in the PR numbers is for the keyless type so I am still thinking advanced key. Wish some people with non MMI and ADS would help on this.

Amazing list. I'm planning on tackling a few of these.

Am I understanding correctly that the ADS option can mostly be emulated by our cars with the proper VDCS coding and the switches installed? Where in the world does the $3500 for the option come from then?

The dynamic steering control system and the magnetic ride suspension is what your paying for. All we get by doing the install is different engine response and some increased response from the steering but not to the extent of the true ADS. But for the total cost of some time and switches with a bit of coding we are getting more than we are paying for.

I had a reason to go poking around ETKA and found two other parts that have different ADS counterparts (PR 2H0 vs. 2H1). The different parts are identifiable items 10 and 15 in ETKA illustration 713-10. Item 10 is called "ball housing - gear shift lever" and 15 is the "display unit". Has anyone done this mod to know if it requires a change of those two parts as well? They are pretty significant (and expensive).
