Why does this S4 found not have aluminum mirror caps?

Hey y'all

I found a B7 S4 parts car and was hoping to grab some stuff off it to sell. Then I realized the mirror caps are plastic, and painted silver (car paint is black).

Is this something that came from factory for certain S4s or did a previous owner of this car make a change?

I believe Audi changed them on a certain year of the B7. The metal ones would get dented easy from small rocks getting kicked up from other cars

well at least I grabbed some carbon trim worth selling, wasn't a total waste of time.

Carbon trim (in fact all trim) was stock, even the brushed aluminum i have.

I never liked the aluminium (chrome color) I like red mirrors in my red car.

All of the B7s came with plastic, painted silver/chrome-look mirror caps. The change over from real aluminum happened during B6 production. If you want real aluminum mirror caps look for earlier B6 S4s. Speaking of that, I have an extra set, I’ll let go of, lmk
