Remove in dash coin tray

I used the tray next to the hazard lights to store coins and one has slipped down behind it. It now will not close properly. Does anyone know how the tray is taken out so i can get in there?

i dunno but this has happened to my friend in his S4.... if you figure out an answer i will pass it on to him, this has been bugging him for ages!

I have a A4 B6 the coin/card holder differs on different models. I have read loads of forums all saying the tabs are hidden and you just have to feel around i don't know about other models but on the B6 (2001 - 2005) the tabs can't be seen by looking into the gaps from the front, however if you remove the grey dash shroud above, gently use a screwdriver from the glovebox side and pop it off you can push down on the two tabs with a small screwdriver through the top of the console (the grey plastic structure under the dash shroud you removed).

If you do it this way there are no breakages, no nonsense and takes less than 2 minutes.

Also I found out how the tray looked by going onto ebay and searching for part which gave me an insight into what the locking tabs looked like.

there's a better thread that I can't find, but it's about some kid who got his bag of weed stuck in the credit card tray and couldn't get it out! The thread actually had good info on getting it out haha

unfortunately this thread has no info on how to remove the actual tray.

I believe your talking about the card holder if thats the case you want to remove the trim right there on top of it, then push on two tabs that hold the tray in and pull on the tray. It might be slightly difficult if there are some coins stuck in there, or you could just take it to the dealer and they will charge you something.

Actually, the blank just to the right of the business card holder comes out along with the business card holder. If you need to remove it seperate just open the card holder and pull straight out on the exposed edge of the blank. To remove the business card holder you'll remove the trim ring above it and then use the keys to slide you head unit forward too. You don't have to take it all the way out just slide it forward so that you can lean it down for the tab on the bottom of that card holder to clear.

Ash tray removal:

1) Open tray door.
2) Grab edge of shift boot cover.
3) Carefully pull it out.
4) Unscrew screws holding ashtray in.
5) Disconnect wire to cig-lighter.
6) Contort ashtray until it's out.
7) Reinstall in reverse order.
8) Never put coins in again.

That happens to me on a regular basis. The third link above is the best. You must remove the radio and the climate controls to re-install properly. You can get the ashtray out with the radio and CC in but it won't go back in.

I just had this issue on Saturday, I tried to take it out with the navigation and ac unit in, I took out the trim around the shifter and got the ashtray halfway out but couldnt get to the coins, nor could I get the ashtray back in. Took it to the dealer and they charged me $45 to remove the coins.
