don't have access to it now but if you just mean diameter i believe it's 6" or 8"...i know, kinda useless, but didn't want to see you hanging with an empty thread! were you looknig for mounting depth as well? non B&O?

Well I have B&O but the thought was that on the right side there is nothing mounted but looks like you can put a speaker there. So I was wondering what the factory size speaker was to see if it was worth trying to fit an aftermarket sub into the rear deck using the factory mount. If it was an 8" then a decent 8" sub with a separate amp tapped into the factory system adding some more base and making it all look factory.

It's 8" and there's a few guys on A5OC that have done the swap you're thinking of. I'll post links in a few.

Well not really looking to swap, looking to add is a better way to think about it. Leave everything installed then add another 8" sub in the open slot beside the factory sub with a small amp to drive it. The trick would be just finding the correct sub. Would need a free air high 8" that can hit lower than stock. Lot to ask for but I'm sure there's something out there. I'm sure what ever the A5 guys used is a good starting point though.

Does the stock system come with an 8" as well or just the B&O?

david which open slot are you talking about? there's the sub casing, a smaller square hole beside it, and some ~1" slots beside that...but there's no extra holes in mind for another 8" sub? (non B&O here)

Well on mine.. If your facing the back seat my speaker is on the right side, there is nothing on the left side. There appears to be mounting holes for the sub mount box and there is a hole cut in the back deck. The rear panel even has the board perforated to be broken out for something to go under it.

The hole David is talking about is not made to fit another 8" sub, you would have to make a casing for the sub. I looked into adding a sub myself. My plans are to get a 8"JL sub and a 250 watt amp will run me about 300 from JL. the needs about 1 cubic/ft of air to work in, which is easy enough to make from the deck lid. That should be the hardest part

Well the hole is just for the back of the sub I would use the factory mounting box to hold the sub so I wouldn't need to cut anything. At least in theory.

DUHH, never mind.. Just looked and see what your talking about now.

Wait, are you replacing the factory sub? I thought you were going to add another sub to the left of it,right? If so do you have another factory sub box in your car or are you going to order one?
I can help you out with this install, I do this stuff for a living right now.

No the idea was to add one using a factory box which I would still need to get. But it does look like it would take some cutting. So weighing my options on it. Guess I should find out if I can finda sub and amp that would work for this application.

Hmmm.. You can find a sub that's not a question there are so many on th market. I was thinking of making my own box right in the rear deck. I wounder if they make a sub box to fit on the left side or is that the part you are talking about cuttig?

Will that 8" JL sub fit right into that same spot? I would look to buy that for sure. How would we tap into the original signal we would have to cut the wires off and use a module of some sort to cover it into an RCA input? Or can you do a direct input as speaker wire?

I doubt I will transfer over my 12" Kicker CVX 750RMS + Fosgate Power serise 1000RMS Amp over to the Audi loll.

I am not sure right now if it will fit right in its spot, hasn’t gotten a chance yet to take the rear deck apart. To wire up the amp is easy, if the amp you are using has a speaker input you can run those wires and tap into the factory sub wiring (and not use RCA's). If your amp can’t do that (If you are using the Fosgate) you need a Line Output Converter.

I like the Fosgate 1000, I have a Fosgate 12" P3 (Brand New) sitting around if you are interested.

8" but with all the speaker grill and everything become a 10" mounting hole.So basiclly if you decide to change out the factory sub speaker which is an 8" you will need a 10" to replace it with that will fit right in the spot.Hope this help...

True, but it really depends on how they mounted the speaker. It could be a 8" hole and overlap 2" for the grill.
I will have to try and pull the sub out this weekend if it doesnt rain.

ey david, have you thought about swapping out the door-speakers? I couldn't detatch them from the door and was wondering if in your travels behind door-trim-land you saw anything... i had the door panels off and all but couldn't effin' get the speakers out, it's like their glued! thanks audi!!!!!!

I took the the sub cover off today and found it to be very small.
    [IMG][/IMG]

The Height of the sub is about 2.5 inches, the width of the opening is 11inchs, and the grill is 8.75

With that being said my idea is to: 1- remove the sub and box all together and build and new enclosed box for the JL I have picked out
    http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_s...p?series_id=28

2- Use the factory box depending on if the sub is glued on or one piece. If the box is used it would have to be modified.

By the specification of the JL sub, it is 3.85 deep, about a 1.35 inched more than the factory one. My idea to fix this is to build a ring the fits the opening of the sub (trunk side) to give it the extra depth.

Heres a picture of what the other side looks like when the grill is removed.

Yes, I am sure there is a company that makes a sub to fit. In my choice I want to go with JL and the link of the sub you posted if a slim sub but it’s a 13 inch I can only fit an 8 inch without cutting anything.
