Got a 2005 A4 B7 here with the 3.0 TDI and ZF 6HP19A 6 speed tipauto gearbox.
I'm a mechanic by trade and am based in the UK but I'm a little bit stuck with this one as I don't usually deal with auto boxes. I bought this car as a fixer for a tow car for moving my personal projects around.
I believe it's got a suspected torque converter problem. Going up through the gears gently, around 30mph and above the car shudders quite violently when the torque converters lockup clutch engages. Can watch it on VCDS and as it locks, the shudder can be felt.
Once it's locked up its silky smooth and fine. It does also bounce whilst coasting down hill and the rev counter will bounce around.
I've got no gearbox codes in VCDS for anything in the gearbox at all and it seems to be doing everything it should be when it should be which makes me want to point at the TC.
Now, I've had the pan down on the gearbox and cleaned it out (all clean and no metal shavings or anything) and cleaned out the oil filter and replaced with fresh VAG spec oil and it hasn't really seemed to make a difference unfortunately.
What should I try next? Replace the TC? Anybody had a similar or same issue? Any help would be greatly greatly appreciated!
Thank you!
