have a friend push down on the hood and you try to get a grip on the cable from inside the car and pull hard..it should budge but if not you gotta go from underneath and get a loooong screw driver and try to unhook the latch. goodluck

If you take off the belly pan and reach your arm up you should be able to work the latch mechanism with your hand or a screwdriver. I've done this before as well.

just looked at the latch inside and wire is still hooked up to it..does this still mean the cable broke from the latch inside or that it broke some where else down the line?

I'm not sure if this will help you but here's a picture of the hood release from inside the engine bay facing out. The area circled in red is a plastic holder/cover that hides the other end of the cable. When you pull the hood release, this is the latch connection. There is a DIY around somewhere that uses a screwdriver to release the hood from outside the front BUT I would try reaching up under the car and seeing what you can do to release it.

12/23/09 - My car has been phenomenal to me. Runs strong. Don't think I'm ever going to sell it. Rather throw $7k into it for a refresh than buy a new A4 that has no dipstick.
    12/5/10 - 100k miles & counting!
    9/22/13 - 146k+ & running strong w/a new TB, water pump, etc.

The best thing for you to do is to remove the front grll. And use a short 10mm wrench and slowly unscrew the 3 acorn nots that hold on the latch.

Took me like 15 minutes, since its slow, tedious wrenching

    best solution for this problem...

my hood latch has some history in giving me problems and I always solve it with a short 10mm wrench, a beer and a cigarette and just accept that I'm not going anywhere for the next 20minutes.

PS: this is my first post I think in the last couple of months
