Best fmic for bt applications (apr stage 3+)???

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I'm currently running a stage 2 Audi B6 1.8T, and I want to add a FMIC right away, but one that will be good enough to use in conjunction with the APR stage 3+ kit I plan to buy at the end of the summer season. Can anyone tell me the top 5 FMIC to look into? I know the sticky in our forum says that evolution recewerks has the best comp series FMIC, but I would like to get a wide range of prices and ideas. Plus how would that comp series FMIC affect my K04 in the meantime?

I run APR Stage 3+ with Racetec FMIC and my IAT are always within 5-7 celcius of ambient at worst even when running hard, and always return to just around ambient almost immediately upon next gear shift. With proper ducting and direction of airflow, it is a competent FMIC for the application. Of course, before I looked at ducting and getting rid of turbulant air, it wasn't quite as efficient and I'd get some scary IAT readings at times.
I think the ER Comp is a work of art and would love to have one, however I don't see it doing any better for my application. No one with an ER Comp will admit that, because they paid so much money for it, so it has got to be better.

Also, it may have changed, but when I bought my 3+ kit direct from APR, the FMIC was NOT included. Nor would I want an APR FMIC, so I'm glad it wasn't.

take a ER comp and duct it like you have and then see the difference. the ER comp will work as well or better than your racetec with no ducting required. i've seen the ractec core and it's pretty anemic in size and density

Totally agreed, however for a GT28RS application, the Racetec works fine in how I have it fitted and ducted. And I saved boatloads of $$$. If I ever do get to my stroker and BMFT plans, then I will certainly go with ER Comp. I doubt it's possible to get IAT lower than ambient without any chemicals or spray thrown in the mix, so for me, right now, the ER Comp wouldn't do much better. I'm most often at ambient and at worst drift 5-7 from it.
If you have the money up front, OP, I'd go with ER Comp from the get-go, as you'll always be set if you go even bigger on the turbo.
I'm just saying that the Racetec can provide very good IAT readings for a GT28RS application at a much better price; better readings than what many would give it credit for, but not straight out of the box. If you slap it on and leave all the space between it and everything behind it, and just let all air in the center opening go elsewhere when it hits the FMIC, then the readings aren't so pretty, but are acceptable.

im not saying go out and spend the money on the ER. im saying get a high density core for your setup. you can get a core that is the size of ER's for $500 from ATP then spend a coupld more hundred on piping clamps and such and end up spending less overall than you would for a racetec setup.

Very smart move. I'd still love the ER Comp, though. It's just so sweet.
