Problem with FOB key and starting car..HELP

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Ive searched the forums for an answer to this problem and cannot find a solid answer. The problem is this; my battery in my switchblade key died and I went to go unlock my car manually with the key, problem is that when the driver side unlocks and I open the door the alarm goes off. When I try to start the car it will not start. I need the correct info on how to reprogram my key because I went to get new batteries and tried to reprogram the key and it doesnt work. Even when I used my spare key to just unlock the car manually the alarm goes off as soon as I open the door. I cannot drive my car because of this problem so any and all help is greatly appreciated. TIA everyone

Yes I tried reprogramming the keys that way. Its like my car thinks im trying to steal it. I can unlock the driver side with the key and when I open the door the alarm goes off. When I put the key in the ignition I can only turn my accesories on but I cant start the car. Could it be a problem with the locks possibly on the driver side door? It seems like the inside door handle is not releasing the lock all the way or something. This is really getting to me now because my car has been stuck in a parking lot for 3 days now.

Try unlocking it with the passenger side. Otherwise maybe try disconnecting the battery while the alarm is goin off?

My car does this if I lock my doors with the key and then unlock them and get in. Alarm goes off and wont disarm unless I disconnect the battery. On the other hand though I can still start my car, alarm then shuts off in a few seconds but then goes off again as soon as I try to get out haha.

ADNpro, when you first open the door does the alarm go off? Also, do you disconnect the battery then reconnect it with the door open and then your able to start the car? This is startin to piss me off cuz my car is still stuck in a parking lot and I cant get the car started so any words of wisdom are alot of help. Why would our cars have a problem unlocking the car with just the key? It also seems like the lock has a hard time unlocking on the driver side door almost like its stuck or something but it does appear to raise all the way up. TIA

Yes it does, but only when I look the door with the key. If I lock the door with the inside button it doesn't even arm the alarm. I just disconnect and then wait like a minute then reconnect, doesn't matter if the door is open or not. I was never not able to start my car though, so I cant really help you with that.

If your car wont start at all it kind of seems like its an ignition problem or some other problem not related to the alarm. Because even when my alarm was going off I could still start it.

Im just trying to diagnose the problem to the best of my knowledge. Theres a relation between the alarm and the ignition and I have a feeling the car wont start because of the alarm going off. Hopefully if I unplug the battery it will help with the problem.Has anyone else had this problem before? Thanks for your help too ADNpro.

Yeah, there is a relation between the alarm and the ignition. If you are trying to diagnose the problem, start with the key cylinder in the driver side door. The alarm kills the ignition when the alarm is going off, and monitors it to check if it was started before the alarm was disarmed. Your alarm isnt disarming because here is a switch in the key cylinder in the door which signals the alarm to disarm after the door is unlocked. The alarm module isnt getting this message, did you try the passenger door like I suggested? (which would obviously have a different switch since it is on a different side of the car)

Did you ever find a solution to this? I am having the same issue where my key would not disarm the alarm and when I open the door the alarm goes off and I cannot start the car. I was able to hook up my VAG and turn off the alarm fault codes so at least I can start my car. I tried reprogramming my keys through my VAG and the "2 key" method - I think the issue is that the alarm is not able to be armed/disarmed with the key manually.

Try unlocking it from the trunk, too, if you have a facelift car with no keyed lock on the passenger door.

It's a post face lift 2001.5 A4 1.8TQ. I tried opening with the trunk and it doesn't disarm the alarm either. It will unlock it, but not disarm it.
