Moving To Boston - Anyone Have Connections @ Boston Consulting Group???

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey all, I'm going to be moving to Boston in about 6-8 months from Denver. I have quite a few connections out east, seeing as I went to the Univ. of Vermont and my girlfriend's from Cape Cod. I'm looking to see if anyone has any connections within some of the larger consulting groups in Boston? Boston Consulting Group is my top prospect, as well as McKinsey, Deloitte, Accenture, etc. I know how difficult it is to get a job in one of these firms, so any help is appreciated!

Please send me a PM if you know anyone in these firms, I'd just like to chat about it. Thanks!

Good luck with your move. The Boston consulting market has been REALLY tough to get into over the past several months because all the people leaving the finance industry have been moving over to consulting firms. It's a tough market out there for consulting in the Northeast and NY / NJ. Best of luck.

What year did you graduate from UVM? I was class of 95'. Here's to hoping the Cats spank Syracuse tonight....however unlikely it may be.

Thanks for the response, so it's going to be even tougher than I thought...

I graduated from UVM in '06 with a business degree. What program were you in? Yeah, I'm definitely hoping the Cats can beat Syracuse, again...HOWEVER UNLIKELY it may be!! Our chances are slim to none but I'm still pulling for them. At least we made it again. What career field are you currently in?

i'm looking for an 'entry level' associate position within a consultancy in Boston. by entry level, i have about five years of professional experience, not within a consultancy though. i'm in sales + consulting right now, but not within the management/strategy industry. please send me a PM if you have any advice, or connections. i'd be happy to give you my personal email address for correspondence. thanks!

I'm assuming you're looking to do management consulting? If so, your chance of getting into a firm like BCG, Bain or Mckinsey is next to impossible without: a: previous management consulting experience, b: VC experience, c: MBA from a top 20 school (MBA from HBS, Sloan, Warton and Booth is highly preferred) d: extensive personal relationship with a partner or higher level from one of those firms.

Depending on your age, and your experience level, you might be able to look for an analyst or sales position with a consultancy, work for 2-3 years, get an MBA, and try to get an associate position.

Firms like Deloitte or Accenture are a little easier to get into, but very hard to get into their Management Consulting practice with a top MBA.

Feel free to PM me, as someone who has gone through this process, I may be able to give you some advice. Good Luck.
