    Thumbs up Ti Trim Install

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Just got a call back from the local dealership. They said $500 can get me the external window Ti trim purchased and installed on my A4. Placed the order - I will post pictures after I get it installed.

I'm not really sure if thats a super deal or not, but seeing as though OEM plus sells the kit for almost 800, I decided to jump on it and let the dealership get it for me and install it.

interior and exterior? Or just the exterior? If just exterior, than you're crazy for not just buying black vinyl-tape (if you will) and and doing it yourself.

i am very interested in this and have looked into doing it. Does this come with the piano black interior as well as everything else? Minus the wheels obviously.

I am assuming just the exterior trim around windows..... Not a bad deal IMO, I heard the labor is a bitch on that install.

If it is exterior that is a killer freaking price. The install is a huge PITA and the trim alone is $$$$$$$$$

I am prett happy with my shadowline install, I may redo it this spring/summer, since its cheap and 2nd time around I feel like I could do an even better job. However down the road, I would consider this. 500 bones isnt terrrible for purchase and install. post pics when its done! And do you know how they are going to go about getting around the rear small window dillemma? Havent people in that past had t break the window, ino rder to install?

Yeah the paint just kept chipping and I don't think I have the patience for the vinyl. My brother and I tried it a couple times and it never really turned out the way I wanted. This whole thing has been quite the headache and I was very happy when they quoted me that amount. This has been the one real regret with my A4 ** not getting the Ti Package. Here's the chance to rectify!

I just ordered the tape so I'm very interested to see how yours turns out. If they stick to the "quote" for $500.00 I think that's a deal!

I have a pretty good gut feeling they have NEVER done this swap before and they are going to see that it isn't as easy as changing a out a headlight!

I talk to my dealership and they said, nope, talk to a body shop...

But more props to you if it in fact only costs you $500 and it's done right!

Yeah why do I have a feeling you will get a call part way through "Actually it is going to be another $1,000".

I did vinyl my self and need to redo some of it. After doing some research the a lot of the BMW guys use 3M Adhesive Promoter, so I think I will try some of that.

As long as the charge doesn't get jacked on you, that's not a bad deal at all. Like everyone else has said, labor is a huge PITA on that.

wow dude spend a day with a roll of shadowline and itll turn out just as fine .

you can actually buy 4 rolls (u can try it 4 times! ) and a heat gun for 100 dollars total and get a perfect job .

i actually cut my shadowline longways and i could have done 2 b7's with 1 roll

    Update:

I used the part number from OEMPlus - 8E5853703M1P9 - thinking that was the whole kit. Actually, thats only one piece. Doing a quick google search, there are a couple other part numbers you will need as well.

    http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...im-P-N-s/page2

Needless to say that raised the price a bit. Should still be around $1000 total for parts and labor. My dealership is taking it to their body shop instead of doing it in house as well. Car is going in on Tuesday.

Wow, man. At $500, it sounded like a somewhat reasonable deal, but not a killer one. At a thousand bones, that's a sh*t ton of money for what you end up getting, IMHO.

Props to you for going for it, but I can think of a dozen things that seem like a better value for that kind of dough.

See if you can get us some shots in progress?? I'd like to see how these guys do this. Make sure they give you a set price. You don't want them coming to you with it half done saying it's another $500 because it's turning out to be more work. Remember "stealership" Good luck I really hope it works out for you bro.

Dumbass for spending $1000 on this. Get off you lazy ass and either plastidip or shadowline for under $50 and a few hours of your time.

jeradw, dude- it's not too late, pull the chute on this plan. Your material costs have doubled and you still haven't reached the stage where the body shop finds out how hard it is to swap that trim. Bring your car to a professional and let THEM wrap your trim if you don't feel you can do it. It will cost you MUCH less for the same results.

Glad I got the Ti Pkg. when I bought the car. $1,000 on just the window trim is a nightmare. Save your money for better mods that you get more for the money.

You could have the trim powdercoated for way less, any color you want. Dude, for that kind of money you should wrap it in cf.

Other than exhaust, I really haven't been into the "go" mods at this point. I wanted to focus on making the car look even better than they already look. After trying a couple of different options, I'm ready to plunk down a couple extra bucks to just have this over and done with. I think having tried the painting option for the second time around and seeing it chip off in chunks was enough to just push this whole thing over the edge. I will be incredibly disappointed if the body shop comes back and says its going to be a lot more, but I will be more upset if it costs more and ends up looking like shit. I decided to put this in the hands of a professional instead of trying something myself again...hope this was the right choice. Granted, its going to cost a lot more (obviously), but as long as the end result is what I am looking for, I don't really care. To me, having the blackout trim is much better than the "foggy" chrome, and way better than chipping painted chrome.

Plus, this is all about personal preference. Spending $500 a pop for BBS wheels might be worth it to some people. Personally, I like $195 Enkei wheels very much - and that's the beauty of it. Its all about what you want to do to make your car the way you want it. If you want to spend the money to make your car a DTM replica, go right ahead if that's what you want, and that's what is important to you. To me, having the trim fixed and cleaned up is important to me and that's what I would like to spend my money on. Not having to worry about it chipping anymore is going to be wonderful. In my opinion, that's why you go to college, you get a good job, and you make decent money - you can find something you want to do to your car and let the professional worry about it. If it costs a little more, so what, at least it will turn out and look the way I want. I tried doing it myself and it didn't really work out, and instead of spending even more money (and then potentially coming back to this option anyways), I decided just to get to trim replaced - by a pro. :)

Nice. did the invoice say how much they charged for the install itself? I may be considering this as well. some of my chrome surround pieces are slightly dented, and i personally don't like the look of vinyl trim.

Funny... I'm pretty sure the Titanium package was a $500 option for the B7 when it was new.
