I'd still rather own an RS4. straight line speed has never been the main appeal of any Audi.
    My WTB List:
-Sport (all black) shift surround for 6MT
-Sport (all black) ash tray cover

fixed, it should be noted that the M5 isnt exactly a poor handling car. That said, this is a Audi forum and id take my RS4 in silver.

    That was a bone stock RS4 lol. A well running stage 2+ S4 will rape a M5, much less a Stage 3.

video said RS4 tuned in top right corner though.

And a C6 Rs6 should fair well (unlike the C5) and pretty much hold it's own vs the E60 M5.

Stage 2+ rape an E60 M5? I'm not buying it. A strong Stage 2+ puts down, what, close to 300awhp? The E60 M5 puts out 500 crank. S4 weighs about 3600-3700 lbs, M5 about 4100. Can't see a Stage 2+ taking one in any roll race, especially not at high speeds. The M5 (even the E39) has VERY potent top-end power.

Stage 3 would take one, sure, but not a 2+.

I'm with Gun, I love the RS4 but the M5 is an incredible car and in almost stock form it's really impressive. I mean we could all probably give it a run for it's money with stage 3, but the M5 is almost bone stock and 500hp. (althought I'm sure we all spend less on the stage 3 cars we have........) I dunno, It's a toss up.

THis video comes from M5board.... moreover I am pretty sure the RS4 is stock. In this way it is V6 vs V10, 507hp Vs 380hp..... thus nothing amazing ....with a difference of 127hp ... In the same way compare a stock RS4 with a 328i .....

I outran a new M5 last year 3 times in 2 minutes UNTIL he decided to put his engine into the 500hp mode. I have a strong 2+. For a couple of minutes I figured that was the only reason I kept pulling on him from 50-130 .

They want you afraid of your neighbors, your community, your family, your ability to support yourself, terrorists, climate change, China, Russia, Covid. As long as you are afraid, and won't unite red or blue, they win.

Whats better for the RS4 IMHO, is it has a proper manual transmission. Not some stupid flappy paddle that my Grandma could use.

It seems like an apples to oranges comparison. The M5 would have to battle the RS6 (non-wagon) to keep the classes the same. The RS4 will destroy the M3, which is the same class. Right?

I almost bought a 2002 M3 before my 2001.5 S4 and even though she pisses me off from time to time, it was the right decision. Even better when comparing what I would have paid for the Bimmer...

But I agree, the M5 is a BMFer

Oh, and a MAJOR +1 from me on the "proper manual" comment. I was so happy Audi opted to keep the 6 speed gearbox in the new S4's...they almost didn't. I was having the feeling the whole world was trying to push us "shifters" out. :-)

Boooo. I don't see why a manual transmission makes someone a "non grandma" because it's an acquired skill.

Why did Ferrari not offer a traditional manual in the Enzo....? Because the "stupid" flappy paddle gearbox is alot faster. Does pushing a pedal in (the clutch) to shift gears really make the experience of shifting your own gears THAT much more sweet? Not trying to debate, just raising some points of contention.

Oh, and E39 M5 or bust for me. Don't like the E60s. The V10 is monstrous, but V8 > V10 for me, any day, always.

yes, it does. Paddle shifters are for people that spend more time driving grandma to the doctor or showing off their car than acutaly driving.

    this ...

it's a predictable outcome. the E60 is a phenomenal car, but for me, i think i'd rather have an E39 if i were to get an M5. to be honest, it's only been in recent years that the E39 became able to compete with the E34 for my affection/attention.
    Because S4 = Hooker
Both can be purchased for cheap, and after one night of reckless, risky fun, either can be found lifeless on the side of the road. Your family is disappointed and concerned once they find out you've picked one up. Not to mention you try to hide how much money you routinely give one from your significant other.
