went to an exhaust shop today and the guy said he'd install the TP for me, but that i should know it could be very harmful to my engine and it could ruin my engine. i forget the exact wording of what he said, but that's basically it. any insight? i have to wonder because have never heard of that happening before with everybody who runs a TP

If "ruining your engine" means making more power and sound, and making it last longer, then yes, it can ruin your engine.

There will be a check engine light because of the oxygen sensors, but the correct software can eliminate that.
"Obsessed" is a word that the lazy use to describe the committed.

It'll throw a CEL if you don't have a work around due to emissions problems, but I don't think it will hurt your engine.

Maybe it could not work so well on a douchey, non-turbo engine. NA engines rely more on back pressure, so I could see how a TP might not be the best for a NA engine without proper tuning. But otherwise, that guy is retarded, and you should go somewhere else where they know what they are talking about.

It won't hurt your engine, it will throw a CEL but an APR or Revo tune can fix that, or a large rear O2 spacer.

kill the shop worker, hes wrong lol.... when you put in a TP you will get a CEL within the next 10 engine starts, i threw on some spacers on the O2 sensors and the CEL went away.

It won't hurt the engine just the environment. It's actually better breathing for the engine increasing performance. But, since you're in Cali, if you are caught, then $$$$$$$.

wow, thats surprising that a shop guy in CA would put in the TP for you. I had a guy do a custom one for me a while ago but he shut down shop. I checked a few places and not many shops will install a TP. But yeah not having a TP is pretty bad for the environment. Ill put my cat back on when CA stops letting in cars from Mexico that dont need to be checked for emissions.
