APR Snubmount Shredded- waste of money?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I had my car in to get a tensioner done and they said the snubmount was totally shredded. Luckily they covered it under CPO even though they knew it was aftermarket. The thing didn't even last a year and a half (who knows how long ago it blew) and I paid a decent amount for the install. Pretty disappointing. Plus the fact the new OEM snubmount felt no different than driving around with the shredded aftermarket one, I'm thinking it really didn't do all that much.

it is a general consensus on the forum that APR snub's are crap, there have been numerous failures.

Many customers have installed the mounts backwards. Also, if your OEM mounts (which are usually shot around 75k+) are crapping out, the snub mount will not hold up very well. Regardless, we have a lifetime warranty on the mount. Just email [email protected] and we'll get you squared away.

    This.

Excessive engine/drivetrain movement will put constant stress on the snub, causing premature failure.

I just put an APR mount in my a few weeks ago as well.

Is there anyway to visually tell looking down at it from the top to tell if it has failed?

    Right here.

A snub mount will fail if it is not installed properly, or if the main engine mounts are weak.

Brand or stock vs. aftermarket don't matter if either of the above two conditions exist.

Are you positive that was installed correctly in the first place? You are saying it's waste of money because your inability to install it yourself. Snub itself is very cheap. Maybe you should have taken it back to whoever installed it. Also, like it was mentioned above, failing motor mounts will cause premature wear for sure ... I know from experience.

Another thing, not sure how many times this needs to be said but here it is again - Snub mount will not feel any different in normal driving conditions! I don't care who claims that it does but it does not. Period. Now ... start driving this car how it's meant to be driven and shift past 5K RPM and you'll notice the difference. HUGE.

^Agreed, the urethane snub mounts really help when you are getting on it hard. I have the apikol snub and rear diff mount and you can really feel it keeping everything in line.

The one I ordered for my B7 S4 MT Avant arrived today. I'll let you all know if I notice a difference or experience any problems.

I don't know if the B6/7 version is the same material (I'd assume it is) but I've had an APR snub in my B5 A4 MT Avant for about 8 years now and no problems. I know it's not the same car but I noticed a huge difference after installing.

Thanks! No clue on if the mount was installed backwards or not, my buddy did the install (owns his own shop, is still sent NSX transmissions from the Acura dealerships because he can do a rebuild faster than anyone in town). I know that doesn't mean he didn't screw up, but he's not a hack by any means. I had my engine mounts (the self stiffening ones) replaced about 40,000km ago.

Am I screwed for warranty if I don't have the original shredded one?

If the snub mount keeps failing, it's usually a sign the motor mounts and/or trans mounts are going bad allowing the excessive movement that's causing the snub to fail. Consider this a time to swap out the other mounts.

It looks bad on you when you come on the forum bashing apr and the mount.
Why not just call apr first and deal with it that way.

The dealer replaced it/chucked it before they even asked me. I still had the stock one sitting in the glove box, luckily they didn't attempt to charge me at all.

Why does it look bad? I just shared what happened and how I really didn't even notice I had a shredded mount vs the stock one, so I was curious how much of a difference this mount could make.

If you think I'm coming on here to be an APR basher at all you are wrong. I've got their full exhaust system and engine management and have expressed how pleased I am (especially with the exhaust) in several threads. I've even made videos and put them up on Youtube to share with others considering the exhaust.

Plus, I think anyone reading this thread would have right away noticed the "email us and we'll give you a free replacement" post and gotten a good impression of them as a company if anything out of this. It's not like I came on here complaining they're customer service was junk. They've always dealt with any problems I've had totally professionally. Unfortunately, I'm not prepared to pay for the labour a second time to have the mount replaced so I probably won't take them up on their offer just to turn around and sell it. I don't expect them to cover this cost, and for something I didn't notice a huge difference even with a failed part, I just don't think it's worthwhile.

i noticed a big difference when installing my apikol, too...that's strange that it only lasted a year and a half...but like others have said, excessive drivetrain/engine movement puts a lot of stress on that tiny snub mount...older motor mounts starting to go bad can also contribute to premature failure of the snub mount

so youre prepared to spend money on an oem mount that will shred twice as fast because your other mounts are shot? makes 0 sense chief id say get another snub, fix the other shit thats wrong and go on with your life. if your car was properly maintained in the first place you wouldnt have these issues.

X2 the stock snub is soo soft and weak compared to an aftermarket. Its not the snubs fault it shreaded, its your car thatg made that happen

If you took a brief moment to read the whole thread the dealer replaced my torn mount with a stock one at zero cost to me without even asking before they did it. I'm not going to complain. Jeez, I guess next time I shouldn't share my experiences, positive or negative, with parts?

Nah, please share. While mine is not an APR, I will take a peed at it to see if the one I installed is still in one piece.

Yup, but while the dealer was fixing the tensioner and discovered the torn mount I don't know what you'd have me do "Please leave the car on the hoist for a couple days while I order a new stiff mount"???
