Question Is my mechanic Crazy ? RS4 sway bar

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So i go and get my seasonal check up, oil filter change and lube.

Anyway i ask my mechanic about installing a rs4 sway bar. And he tells me its important if i put one in the rear to also install one in the front. Is that right ? Also he quoted me 300$ installed for the front and 300$ installed in the rear. Im pretty sure he is just ripping me off

Ive got a b7 2006 3.2l with stock suspension, please advise

DO IT YOURSELF took me an hour for each if it is fwd then just the rear is better, but awd both is more relevant

He's trying to rip you off - just get the rear and do it yourself - its easy as shit to do. Get yours from Greg @ DTH - he has the complete kit for cheap.

I'm not sure if you bought it already, but we have them as well (http://www.europaparts.com/audi-rs4-...-kit-22mm.html). It's a hot selling item. Because of the size of the RS4 RSB, its small enough that you don't need to upgrade the front sway bar as well. With kits where the RSB is much larger, you need a larger front sway bar to help offset that difference (H-Sport's kit is one example that comes to mind). So you're good with just the rear bar...no front bar needed. And the RS4 rear sway bar won't fit the front of the car anyway.

As for installing it, $300 is very very expensive. Here's a writeup...it's pretty simple to DIY (http://www.audiction.com/audi-tuning...y-bar-install/)

Yikes just put the OEM RS4 sway bar on the rear and dont touch the one in the front. And WOW that is WAY WAY too much money. Does your mechanic need to make a trip Mohegan Sun or Atlantic City? LOLOLOL!!!

Prices are the same - DTH also charges $10 for the new brackets/clips and shipping is not free either

Any honest respectable shop should be able to do the RSB in 1/2 hour, maybe 1 hour for both front and rear. $300 for each is absolutely ridiculous. You should tell the guy to stop being a crook and go find a new mechanic.

If they put the car on a lift, which they obviously will, it shouldn't take more than a half hour...tops. Standard, straightforward install. I had no idea what I was doing and did it in under an hour laying under the car on jack stands.

You don't need a front sway either. The front sway in the a4 is identical to the rs4's.

300 for front parts and labor
300 for rear parts and labor

that means ~150 for bar and parts + hour @ $100 hr + tax =~300
    same for rear

    its not $300 for labor

but do it yourself its not hard

I need to up my sways as well, but still hesitate on it.
Couple issues concern me from past car experience is simply controlling the torsional twist of the chassis. By increasing only the rear sway, the chassis twist from front to rear will increase significantly. Past cars had windshields actually pop out unless you added more rigidity via strut braces and such. From listening here on AZ, it seem the A4 chassis is actually amazingly ridged and holds up well to the mod and added stress, but I still cant help but think that upping the front at the same time would be a better decision overall for the longevity of the car. The second drawback to a factory sway such as the RS4, is the lack of adjust-ability. I have enjoyed being able to alter the firmness of the sway as needed on my past car, (although I did not do it for every track event, I did change it for summer/winter driving). Not sure what A4 option have adjustable rears, but it will certainly prove to be a more versatile bar than any OEM replacement.
The fast fix consensus here is the rear rs4 is the "best bang for the buck", but I doubt it is the "best option" for the "best handling".

    Just food for thought...

I got the H&R rear sway for my FWD. It has three adjustable positions. It truly is a night and day difference. Enjoy

Dang, 300 bucks is a rip off. The only reason I didn't install myself was because I didn't have any tools then.
Get the rear, if u have to pay, 50~70 bucks would do it.
