Hey guys, I was thinking about installing HFC myself but I don’t know how difficult it is? Can I follow this guide even though it is for B7, and is it necessary to take the down pipe off?

The install is pretty much exactly the same as on the B7.

The biggest challenge you're probably going to face is disconnecting the old downpipe from the exhaust. spray some penetrating oil on all of the bolts a couple days ahead of time....

I sprayed the turbo to cat bolts at least twice a day for a week before install and when it came time to swap the cat for TP they came right off with my hand and a wrench. The only bolt that is a bitch is the one on the very bottom. It was easier for me to get under the car (car was on ramps) and use a long extension on an impact.

A little tip to save your knuckles and some time, unbolt the mount that attaches to the tranny (O2 sensors too), then loosed the two 17mm bolts that attach the downpipe to the rest of the exhaust, and then remove the three bolts where the turbo and cat meet. Then pull the cat/downpipe out as one piece though the hood. That way you avoid trying to mess with the bolts where the cat meets the downpipe while its attached and under the car.

My clamp on the downpipe from the stock exhaust was SOOOO rusty, i had to use a smaller SAE socket on the bolts and bang it on with a hammer......and then use an impact gun to get them off. that was NOT fun.

Make sure you buy a can of PB Blaster and use it liberally.

i tried pb blaster and all that shit, both sides of the DP were rusted and i couldn't get them off. i ended up cutting the downpipe in half with a hacksaw right at the mounting point that hangs off it and pulled it out the top with the cat attached. since i wasn't reusing the DP or the exhaust it really didn't matter that i chopped it in half.

    good luck!

Use lots of PB blaster before. I used it the night before and the day of... everything came undone with a bit of muscle.
