    S4 door blade questions.....

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey guys, for those of you that have purchased the S4 door blades did they come in gray or black? Hard to tell from some of the pictures of the retailers selling them. ECS says that they are black, my car is brilliant black (it doesn't have the plastic lowers luckily) would they match or do i need to get them painted to match? If i need to get them painted can i do them myself or just take them to a shop? Thank you.

You would need to get them painted to match. They closely match the stock unpainted lowers of an A4 iirc. Painting is a pita if you dont know what youre doing so I would suggest getting the professionally painted.

They come matching the gray unpainted lower color. Exact match. Personally, I think that gray doorblades look good with painted black lowers. It's a nice contrast! Check it out!

They are just about the easiest thing to install. If you can operate a screwdriver you will have no problem.

Just remove two little screws, slide the blades over an inch and they'll fall right off

Anyone getting light rust under their doorblades? After a period of non-washing due to the frigid weather I started seeing some orange colored runoff around the edges. I popped one off tonight to find some rusty colored areas. Just curious if this is highly abnormal or not...

Was it the blade itself that was rusting, or the door? I'm actually talking about flat blades and didn't have the time or daylight to give everything a good wash and inspection. Probably won't all week.... (I can't wait for summer sun to get here)

The S4 blades used to be shipped color matched to what we commonly refer to as 'unpainted lowers' as seen below on Tgr_Clw's A4. Buy em and they come matched to your non-body paint matched / "unpainted" lowers.

As of very recently, it was discovered that S4 blades are now being shipped in the same lighter gray color as the USP lower front as seen below on Skidmrk's A4. Notice the lowers and front do not match. This is the ballpark color of S4 blades now.

[Yes he has a unique style, we all know this. Let it go.]

Mike Hood brought this to our attention in the B6 forum on QW:

    http://forums.quattroworld.com/a4b6/msgs/19783.phtml

So then OP, since you have an 05 with lowers that are factory painted to match your car, you'll need to have these blades painted to match your vehicle. Additionally, unless whomever you're ordering from has old stock left over, they won't come in the black color as seen on Tgr_Clw's A4 above nor the A4 linked by Rommulus.

On a side note, as I do have UPL, if I ever decide to get S4 blades I'll now have to paint them, even though my lowers are 'unpainted' so to speak. Failboat.

Just got my door blades from ECS. Three matched my unpainted lowers, one was white. Painted to match following a thread on this site (http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=306941) - a perfect match.

I actually noticed little orange/yellowish spots on some of the blades myself. You cant see them unless your face is right up to the blades fortunately. I am beginning to wonder what they are.

The rust is from the screws that hold the blades in place. If you wash off the
area where he blade goes and can visually observe rust then it may be on your door panel. But I
have yet to hear of anyone with rust problems on their car

Until now. I have a rust problem under all four doorblades Its like just under the doorblade and in the two screwholes for the blades. Didn't notice it after a year or so after I've bought the car when I took the doorblades off. Arrg! So now I'm saving up for a full repaint of the car since there is rust on all doors, stonechips on the rear fenders and I had my Rieger and Hofele bodykit installed. Saying audis don't rust is like eating yellow snow, your in for a big surprise

And btw, two of my S4 doorblades came already primed in a light grey color while the other two blades came in the dark grey/"black" aka unpainted lowers color. Bought them from a shop here in Norway.

Did the white doorblade match the light grey doorblade I have? The light grey in the pic was already primed from the factory when I bought them while the one on the left was in the standard "unpainted lowers" color and finish.

Thanks for posting a pic, I do appreciate it. Saving that one.

Looks like AoA is shaving down costs where they can by no longer shipping these from the factory to match the UPL of our 03's and earlier.

Due to dwindling supplies S4 door blades are getting imported as "unpainted lowers" or in a light grey primer. There is no rhyme or reason to it, other than supply/demand equations. We currently have S4 door blades for 36% off and have worked very hard to keep prices this low as it is nearly impossible to find a supply of these anymore. If you are interested, click here.

Dwindling supplies? Nearly impossible to find a supply of these? Come on Chris. There has never been a shortage of S4 blades. Maybe around tax return season or Christmas. We're weak willed like that. ;-] But considering the going rate for these, the ECS price is quite good. Although PureMS still has ya beat.

Audi is being smart here. The vehicle these were intended for (B6 S4) comes completely body painted from the factory. So then, it's an obvious business decision as to why they're no longer spending the extra money to add an another coat of paint in addition to this light gray primer. Bean counters are hard at work, and they made the right call here.

Funny thou, after seeing Jorge's beautiful Avant yesterday, I'm starting to sway towards no blades.

    http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...a4-white-dream

Then again, once the White USP Avant fever wears off I'll likely come to my senses.

You are wrong and right. I need to re-phrase - it is getting nearly impossible to find these at this price, which is why we are subjected to mismatched primers. The average dealer in the US is charging ~700 for these and I think it may have gone up to ~800 last month.

Also, PureEMS does not offer free shipping on their blades, so they are not the better option if you live in the continental US ;)

I sure hope no one is still sourcing parts like S4 blades from a dealer. No shocker on that pricing thou. But that's why we have ECS, right? So we don't have to support our local Stealership. lol

Fair enough, fair enough. The important thing is that they're still available.

Frankly, I'm not so much interested in the nickles and dimes but what the part will be when delivered. EX: Some time ago, hunted around endlessly for a clear answer concerning the actual color of an USP lower, hence why I have that pic above saved (and now the primer gray blade shot as well).

And good to know about the shipping, I tip my hat. But for Short-Attention-Span-Theater guys like me, you're gonna need a flashier icon. I glanced right past this:

    Free Shipping

Maybe one with boobs. That usually does it.
