Stock spring color code project: Please submit yours!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I started this thread asking if there was any place on the site that had the OEM spring color codes listed. After finding nothing (and getting zero help) I decided to start keeping a record. I ask that you post up your car's year, model and spring codes (fender to hub center measurement would be a real bonus as well). I've had 2 sets in my own possession that I've added to the list and Tone Dogg has also helped. Anyway, if you post up what you've got, I'll add it to the first post here and hopefully it will serve some good for those looking for more info.

Oh, and since it appears there were variations even within the same model year, don't give up just because your year has been covered. Check your codes and maybe you've got something we don't have yet.

Well, maybe if it's not out there in a list somewhere we can build one on our own... Should y'all decide to play along, list your car's year/motor/model and color code. I'll start:

    2005 1.8t "Special Edition" (non-sport)
    Front: Blue Orange Pink Pink
    Rear: Green White

Since I doubt this will take off, I may as well shoot for the fences and include fender to center of hub measurements too (center of hub will give a better representation than the ground because it takes the tire/air variables out of the equation)

    Front: 15"
    Rear: 14 3/4"

Post 'em if ya got 'em!

Bumping this up to see if we can't get some more participation. I've had a couple people tell me now they were hoping to see some info on the topic.

Cool. I just installed my new sport springs and can add those as well. The guy who sold them to me said they were off of a 2004 Ultrasport. I'll edit the original post with the new data.

    Thanks!

Are you saying this after having looked at them, or assuming because they're both sport models? I only ask because I've seen more than one time where two of the same models within the same year had different colors. I plan to add as many different color combos for each of the above listed years and trim levels as I get from people, so we have all possible combinations.

Where do I find a mod to change the title of this thread? I PMed one and am not sure he saw it...

This topic may be a couple of years old but I'll throw my two cents in and contribute.

    My ride is a 2003 B6 1.8T Quattro sedan with non-sport (1BA) OE suspension.
Front springs: 4 stripes - Blue, Orange, Pink, Pink; OD (Outer Diameter) 15mm
Rear Springs: 4 stripes - White, Pink, Pink, Pink; OD 14.5mm

However, I just picked up a set of used OE Sport springs (1BE) from a 2004 B6 1.8T Quattro sedan.
Front Springs: 3 stripes - Blue, White, Green; OD 16mm
Rear Springs: 2 stripes - Blue, Green; OD 15.5mm

I intend to put replace my springs this weekend so I'll get the height measurements then. From the comparison, the Sports are 1mm thicker than the non-sport front and rear.

This would be a lot more useful if the reported spring colors were listed with the suspension PR numbers as shown on the build equipment listing tag in the spare tire well. Then, the spring colors can be matched up with the part numbers shown in the ETKA, per suspension weight class per axle. The ETKA shows the paint colors per PR numbers and weight class and spring part numbers.

Someone should copy and paste this into the Wiki.

Sport and USP suspension is PR "1BE", Standard suspension is 1BA. etc. IIRC 1BE/1BA is not the same axle weight class necessarily, since 1BE is available on 3.0l A4s as well with a different axle weight class than 1BE on a 1.8T USP

BTW, the Build Equipment tag is also under the rear seat.

Long shot and a necro bump, but can someone tell me the color code for OEM springs from a 2005 1.8TQ Avant USP 6-speed? I think I will be looking for a set, so I wan to make sure I get the right springs.

Finally got around to installing the sport suspension coils thanks to the help of GTA. There is little information out there so I'll add to this thread.

    2005 Audi A4 Avant 1.8T

    Stock Front: Blue/Green/Pink
    Stock Rear: White/Red

    Sport Front: Blue/White/Green
    Sport Rear: Blue/Green

New ride h (ground to fender lip) with the sport coils:
    Front: 26"
    Rear: 25 5/8"

    Car looks great now.

I have some sport springs the PO gave me when I bought the car. I never got around to putting them on but planned on doing so when I get my axles fixed. Was always curious as to their exact type/spec. Will check them out tonight.

I'll update this thread with some data shortly, but what got me finding this thread was the question of the difference between 2002 Sport springs vs. the later cars, including the B7 cars. More specifically, I was wondering what Sport springs from a 2007 B6 might do to my ride-height vs. the Sport springs currently in my 2002.

I can verify that 2004 1.8T Quattro sedan 5-speed w/ sport springs (front) is indeed Blue-White-Green. I suspect these are a little taller than the sport springs used on the front of the 2002 - early (?) 2003 which is Blue-Green-Green-Green

Ive been trying to source replacement springs for the rear of my 04 w/ sport suspension(1 blue, 1 green) and let me tell ya....its proving to be a challenge to say the least. Ive inquired to a couple different companies and no one seems to know which springs work with this color code/OEM part number. and i don't really want to pay $200 a spring from Audi.

Somewhere within the walls of VW/Audi there must be a database that indicates exactly what all these different color stripes mean. They've used this approach for years across all their models - here's what was put together for the VW Jetta/etc Mk4 platform....

Edit, several months later... I was *told* these were from a B7 Quattro Sport, but everything I'm seeing now leads me to believe these are actually from a late (2004-5.5) B6 Quattro Sport - Blue, Brown Stripe

I'm unsure of how/if these differ from a B7 sport spring which seems to typically have Blue, Green or Blue, Green, Green stripes - would be interested to know, either by direct spring measurement and/or usage in a B6

Trying to add some real data to this thread, this is reportedly from a B7 Sport Suspension - Rear - Blue-Green-Green stripes. 16.42mm

I asked someone selling 2004 S4 springs to give me the coil diameters:

    Front: 16.9mm (Pink-Green-Green-Green) At rest height - 10.5"
    Rear: 15.9mm (Blue-Green-Green) At rest height - 9.75"

Oddly, as you can see from the post immediately above, the rear value disagrees with the Rear Blue-Green-Green I had received elsewhere.

    Bumping this.

    2002 A4Q 1.8t Avant

    Front: blue, orange, pink, pink
    Rear: white, green, green, green

Also would like to add that I believe I've narrowed down the 2002 Sport springs:
