    Bixenon fog issue?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Okay sorry for the thread but posting from my iPhone. I couldn't find this answer. I just installed bixenon ecodes, did the oring mod and put a litte grease on it while also sealing the backs with small amount of rtv. An hour later they are starting to fog. I like in ny and the weather is in the 30s and was raining this morning. Am I missing something here? Are people sealing the drain tubes as well? Not sure what else could be causing it to start to fog again.

Give it a day or so and report back. Mine fog when I wash the car, but after running the lights for a bit the fog goes away and doesn't come back.

ya it goes away but i thought the purpose of the o-ring mod is for it to stop fogging. after the car sat for a bit it cleared up but after i drove it through the ran it came back. i dont know how its getting in other then through the drain tubes but didnt see anyone say anything about plugging those up

After i fixed my headlights i threw in some silica packets to absorb any left over moisture that i couldn't get out with my heat gun. The headlights cleared up after a few days and have been clear ever since.

did the same thing. gotta make sure they are completely dry before reinstalling them. you can also look up the "umbrella" fix to do at the same time.

Mine fog up when it rains really hard for a long duration (but not during smaller rain storms). That might just be the issue. And I've replaced my O-rings several times before.

I think the raincoat "fix" is just a bandaide. If you solve the o-ring searing issue nothing else should be required up there. the o-ring simply doesn't have enough crush to make an adequate seal against the shaft and the housing.

Here's how i solved my issue, took off the o-ring, wrapped a thin strip of electrical tape once or twice (can't remember) around the sealing surface of the shaft. this will build up the thickness of the adjuster shaft, and then i reinstalled the o-rings. Then reassembled everything using some very thick silicone oil. haven't had a problem since......not even in the worst rain storms or pressure washing at the car wash.

You've got moisture inside that needs to be eliminated. If you did the o-ring mod correctly they should be sealed. When I did the o-ring mod I also brought the housings into my home and kept them warm for a few days with the back cover off so air could circulate in the housing.

I havent had any fogging since. You can also install the silica packets to help aborb the remaining moisure.

I had the headlights in a heated room and made sure they were dry inside before puting them all back to together. i bought larger orings and put a bit of grease on the ring to ensure seal. they felt snug when i put them back and i used clear rtv to seal the ballast and the back covers. it was raining last night and after driving they started to fog up. this morning they finally cleared up but im afraid this will get worse in heavier rains and/or when washing the car. im going to get some of those silica packs i think and put them in. are you guys leaving the drain tubes open or plugging those as well?

Have you check around your clear lens to make sure that it's making a good seal all the way around the housing. I have heard of some people having issues where the glue that bonds the clear to the black part has actually leaked.

they were pretty clean, so i wouldnt feel there would be an issue with that but when i put the scilia packs in i will double check that. im almost tempted to seal the drain tubes. the single xenons dont come with them but they also dont have 2 sets of motors inside of them. my only concern with closing the drain tubes is the heat inside of the headlights from the 2 motors

i left my drain tubes alone, and also smeared a thin layer of clear sealant around the lens. Other than that, just the o-ring mod using powdered graphite not an oil-based lubricant.

i installed silica packets also, havent seen even a hint of fog since but havent driven in a pounding rain yet either.
