    Anyone install side assist mirror?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi

I find side assist mirrors on ebay as below:

    http://cgi.ebay.com.au/AUDI-A4-8K-B8...item5190e94f6b

Anyone ever install side assist mirror for your B8?
Are they just plug in and play or VAG-COM code needs?

    Cheers

they would be no where near plug and play... Cars equipped with side-assist have radar modules located behind the corners of the rear bumper... You would have to find those modules and install them with the appropriate wiring...

I would love to do this, but as far as I can see, it would be very involved.... DavidB8 would probably be able to do it... but I believe his car already has side assist...

That's kind of funny actually. The timing that is.

I just had another member PM me asking about trying to install that feature. So I did a bit of research for them. NPuter is dead on.. There are 2 control modules for the side assist in the rear bumper. They incorporate the radar into them. You would need to remove the bumper to install those. Now if you have the rear camera you can probably use the Can Bus in the rear if not you have to run the wiring to the front. You would also need the mirrors of course plus the new trim panel on the inside of the car with the button. You would then need to wire out some extra pins in both doors for the control modules there to enable the side assist in the mirrors. Then do the vag programing and enable it in the hidden menu. Once that's done and provided everything works you have to go to the dealer and have the unit calibrated. The wiring is the big one if your going to do it right. You would need to add a fuses to the rear fuse box and get the wiring to insert into it for the power.

Enough planing and research sure it can be done, but you have decide just how bad you want it because this isn't a small install.

The side mirrors - inkluding side assist - are only avallable with all wires - but maybe you need a new door unit on both sides??

Thanks a lot, NPuter. I might need to ask you a lot of questions about Bi-Xenon retrofit.
I checked your guys posts in forum and you guys did brilliant job!!
But my case will be different with yours...
There are lack of information in this forum for RHD. Two month ago, I ordered bi xenon headlamps from ebay Germany. They were US parts, not UK version parts. I wouldn't know RHD got different cutoff at that time. As a result, I had to buy UK headlamps again. (it's coming soon)
Also,I'm having so much trouble to run a pair of adapter and to find exact location of two pin (Red, Brown) connectors.
The different side of driving position is bugging me so much..
If I can install headlamps successfully, I'll post Halogen->Bi-Xenon retrofit information for RHD, definitely.

I can't imagine that RHD would be much different... Once you start your retrofit, PM me with any specific questions and I will help you through it...

On the other hand, for those already with Side Assist, those are some nice new lower mirrors. Mine makes a LOT of wind noise.
